Lampit Street is in Wrexham town centre and links Chester Road to Queen's Square. It
has always been a busy shopping street and had large indoor markets opening onto either
side of the street. The only accommodation in Lampit Street would have been above the
shops. The area was extensively redeveloped in the 1980s.

The parish church of St Giles is nearby in Church Street.

Erlas was a small ancient township to the east of Wrexham. Some of the ancient Erlas
estate became the Queens' Park housing estate and the Wrexham Industrial Estate. Erlas
Hall dates back to the Middle Ages.

Bieston was another small old township, this time to the north of Wrexham and close to
Gresford. This area is now covered by the Borras Park estate and one of the roads is
called Bieston Road.

In the 1800s both Erlas and Bieston would have been farming areas and most of the
residents would have been agricultural labourers.
Last year Cilla Black traced her family history back to Bieston in a BBC Wales TV
program.

I can see "Poor Lands" mentioned on the census but I've never heard of it
before!
