Hello to the Denbighshire list.
I've found myself visiting you because of the SWINNERTON family, at least
one of whom, Hugh born in Wrexham ca 1823, migrated as a brass Finisher to
Liverpool by 1841 along with his parents and established a family there.
Hugh's father was a chandler by the name of Robert Swinnerton, believed,
though not yet proven, to be born in Wrexham in 1802.
So, if anyone has any connections to this family in any way, I would love to
hear from you. If anyone has any advice too about searching the parish
registers (in the Denbighshire Records Office, I assume), it would be
helpful as I think I'll have to take a trip there one day.
Lastly if anyone has any local information of the Wrexham district around
the 1823 - 1841 era and why a whole family unit may have upped sticks to go
to Liverpool, I would be very interested. Of course Liverpool was developing
as a major industrial area but what were the main occupations in Wrexham,
was it agricultural, a depressed local economy...any clues really.
Thanks for reading.
Liz
