Message Board Post:
I've read with interest the postings in the Clwyd mailing list archive and am writing
to both that list and this message board hoping to find fellow Jones-family researchers
and the status of their research.
Recently I acquired a certified copy of an entry of birth from the G.R.O. for Mary Jones.
Here's the information copied from it:
From: Registration District: Llanrwst, County of Denbigh
#208
When and where born: First of May 1846, Carnedda, Parish of Llanrwst
Name: Mary
Sex: girl
Father: John Jones
Mother: Alice Jones, formerly Williams
occupation of father: Blacksmith
Informant: John Jones, father, Carnedda
Registered: Sixteenth of May 1846
Registrar: D. Davies, Registrar
This was the first information I had on Mary Jones's parents. I checked the census
information for Llanrwst and found the following.
1841 Parish: Llanrwst County: Denbighshire
Wales H.O. 107/1043, book 18, folio 52, page 3 ED 13
Place: Carneddau
John Jones, 33, smith, born in Denbighshire
Alice Jones, 35, not born in Denbighshire
Jane Jones, 7, daughter, born in Denbighshire
John Jones, 3, son, born in Denbighshire
Alice Jones, 1, daughter, born in Denbighshire
(relationships aren't usually listed in the 1841 census but in this case the census
taker wrote the relationships in the column for professional trade, and then marked
through them)
1851: Parish: Tybrith Isaf/Llanrwst, County: Denbighshire
HO 107/2508, folio 205, page 9, ed 7f
Place: Carneddau
John Jones, head, married, 45, smith, born Llanrwst, Denbighshire
Alice Jones, wife, married, 39, born Llanllechid, Caernarvonshire
John Jones, son, 13, scholar, born Llanrwst, Denbighshire
Alice Jones, daughter, 11, scholar, born Llanrwst, Denbighshire
Margaret Jones, daughter (twin), 8, scholar, born Llanrwst, Denbighshire
Catherine Jones, daughter (twin), 8, scholar, born Llanrwst, Denbighshire
Also listed at Carneddau is Joseph Thomas and his family
Mary is not listed in the 1851 household and I have been unsuccessful at determining where
she might have been instead.
As stated in other correspondence on the CLWYD-L list, the Jones family was not at
Carneddau in 1861. In 1861 Joseph Thomas and his family are listed there.
If anyone could share some information about what happened to the family, I'd
appreciate it. I believe I saw a message that said John Jones died in 1858. Can someone
verify that for me?
In the 1861 census I have found a number of listings in Caernarvonshire and Denbighshire
for single people named Margaret, Jane, Alice, Mary, and John, of the right (or
approximate) ages, working as servants in other people's households. I have not found
a listing for Alice (Williams) Jones. Is she also buried in Llanrwst?
In 1871, Mary Jones is living with her new husband, John Williams, in the household of
Owen Jones (40) and his wife Mary (40). They are in Llanbeblig, at 5 Evans Court.
Mary Jones is my Great-Great Grandmother.
I look forward to hearing from you!
