Once again deepest thanks for this, you've given me a tremendous amount to go on.
I'm still not sure of the inscription on the map you mentioned:
"The family history notes with the map give: "Jami DODD - tad Henry Davies"
(Jami DODD - father of Henry Davies; but it should be father-in-law?"
From what you've told me surely James Dodd's son-in-law would
have been John Davies? Henry would have been his grandson.
The 1851 Census lists James and Henry living with their grandmother Elizabeth Dodd in
Moreton Above. In 1861 however the boys are seen with their mother Mary. The only likely
listing for Elizabeth Dodd in the 1861 census shows her living with a daughter Sarah and
granddaughter Harriet, so I'm tentatively presuming Mary had a sister called Sarah.
I think my next task is to seek the birth records of Henry and John Davies, though
it's very tough with such a common Welsh name!
