Although it's not a common name - in fact I don't think I've come across it
more than once before - Aurddolen is a girl's name. Aur means gold. Dolen
means link or loop, and could be mutated to ddolen but I'm not sure if
that's the meaning here. There was a fashion at one stage, which could match
your timing, for names ending in -dolen like Gwendolen (with the emphasis in
some areas such as Merioneth on the next to last syllable) and there were
some 'made-up' names to fit that pattern. Not sure if that theory holds with
the 'dd' in the middle of Aurddolen. Would a search of ancestry using just
the first name come up with clusters maybe? I know in one area of a
minister's daughter being given a very unusual name and then the fashion
taking hold for several years just in that area.

Subject: [DENBIGHSHIRE] AURDDOLEN M DAVIES
Hello,
I have been searching for offspring of a great aunt,Harriet
Bradbury b. Kidwelly 1882 and her husband Samuel Davies b Coedpoeth
Denbighshire 1872.
They married in 1907....he was a widower. He had a son from his first
marriage and they had at least two more children together,Samuel in
1909 and Aurddolen
in 1912,Dec Qtr .
My questions are....is that a boy or girls name? And is there a
meaning to it? I have never heard of it before.
Thank you
Roy Davies
