Dear all,
One of the Roberts family of Moel yr Irwch, mentioned in my last mail, has a
most unusual name that I have never come across before *Douse*.
Douse was a woman who died in 1805, although I don't have her age at death
she must have been over 50, so born pre 1755. I don't think that the name is
a mistake in transcription or a poor spelling by a clergyman as the name
appears in the Parish Register transcripts, spelled exactly the same, about
four times over a period of 30 years.
Have any other members of the list come across this name? Could anybody
enlighten me on its origins?
thanks
Alwyn
It sure is unusual!
Found the following two on the IGI online at
http://familysearch.org/Search/searchigi.asp
Douse JONES - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Christening: 3 Dec 1681 Of Oswestry, Shropshire, England
Douse WILLIAMS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Christening: 25 Mar 1561 Oswestry, Shropshire, England
NB One male and one female!
(There was no Douse SMITH listed in the British Isles.)
Also found a Douse WILLIAMS by searching for "Douse Williams" i.e.
using inverted commas in Google.
