The farm in Denbigh which you are looking for could be Brynefydd Fm on Henllan Road about a mile from Denbigh. Groes is not all that far away on a straight line.
It is currently, and has been for some time, a County Council owned farm, previous to that it was probably in Plas Heaton Estate or Gwaenynog Estate.

Hi Mike
I do have access to the 1901 Census, thanks. Yes, it is interesting how the clan stuck together! My mother was born to Edward William Hughes at 10 Well Street which isn't far away either. I did notice that in the 1901 Census the address written on the actual image is 44 Llangollen Rd. but in the index it is 44 Burton Terrace. I wonder why?
when I was in Wales in 1907, I went looking for Burton Terrace but as expected, the terrace housing had been replaced.
Edward William Hughes, and his wife and child along with his mother Ann immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1907. Ann died 11 months later of Typhoid Fever and is buried in Toronto. It must have been quite an adjustment for this tight-knit family. Her cemetery record shows her religion as Baptist. I don't know if she was Baptist when living in Wales.I have found Baptismal records for three of her children in 1870 but nothing for Edward William. This would indicate that she was Anglican for a period anyway. Her children, Edward and Thomas were Presbyterian and members of Trinity Chapel, Acrefair.
Regards,
Lois

Hi Lois. I don't know if you have the 1901 census but just in case, Ann was still alive and living at 44 Burton Terrace along with Thomas who was an Army pensioner and Edward who was a house plumber.
In the 1891 census, John gave his birthplace as South Wales for some reason and Rubina was born in Norfolk.
When Thomas married Rubina they were living at 18 Burton Terrace. Liked to stay close didn't they?
Mike

I have checked this and it is an error...Gertrude was only married once - to Benjamin Bryan. The other Gertrude (married Overend) is not the same family.
All the best,

I have just started with my family tree.... and I am stuck at the same bit. Thomas Jones born 1817 was my G.G. Grandfather. He owned a Japanning business in Bilston. "The Great Western". They seemed to have gone bankrupt in 1881 and they had house in Cambridge street Bilston with the business and also "Bryneddyn Farm" near Groes in Denbighshire, of which I can find no trace. "Dodleston" in Cheshire was suggested as it use to be in Denbighshire!?! If I find more I will post it up.

Thank you Michael, for your reply. I figure that the family moved from 41 Burton Terrace to 13 Burton Terrace sometime between the 1881 and the 1891 Census. By the 1891 Census mother Ann was a widow and three of her children, Thomas, Samuel and Edward Wm Hughes (my grandfather) were still at home. In the 1891 Census, another family is living at 41 Burton Terrace.

Regarding Samuel Hughes born about 1870, you may have the wrong census as in 1881 he was living with both his parents in 41 Burton Terrace, Ruabon. In 1891 he was at 13 Burton Terrace, Ruabon. All members of the family were born in Ruabon.

Hi Heulwen
I just found your post from 2006. Sarah Ann and John Morris were my great grandparents. They had five children altogether - their son John Edward was my grandfather although he died well before I was born. Are we related?
I would be delighted to swap information with you - I have done quite a bit of work around John and Sarah Ann including finding their obituaries in the Rhos Herald. I have also managed to go back as far as Edward and Sarah Roberts - the parents of Sarah Ann - but I'm not quite sure as to Sarah's family. Do you have any info?
All best
Nan

My grandfather Edward William HUGHES 1880-1935 whose parents were Thomas HUGHES and Ann EDWARDS, was born and raised in Acrefair, Denbighshire, Wales along with his four brothers whom I know next to nothing about. I would love to find the descendants and relatives of my Grand Uncles.
My Grand Uncles are as follows:
John HUGHES 1860-1902, married Rubina SALMON 1883, Yorkshire England. Died in Durham, England
Thomas HUGHES 1865-1927, married Rubina SALMON, his brother's wife, in 1905. He is buried in the Trefynant Cemetery along with wife Rubina and his father Thomas.
David HUGHES 1868-?Died? (He and his wife, name unknown, attended his brother's funeral in Acrefair in 1927) His daughter, name unknown, may have married a Goldsbrough.
Samuel HUGHES 1870-1901 He died while with the 1st Shropshire Light Infantry in India. In the 1881 Census he was 21 years of age, single, and living in Acrefair with his mother so may not have married.
Any leads on this family will be much appreciated.
Lois
