This may be a total red herring but I have at the back of my mind that I've seen a stray Cadwaladr Pierce as a child or teenager in Ffestiniog parish around mid nineteenth century living with a family with a different surname, and him not fitting into an obvious family relationship. It stuck in my mind as feeling sorry for anyone searching for him.
Worth a look?
Rhian

I The family are from the parish of Penmachno, in the Nant Conwy area of Caernarfonshire.
The Rhosgoch you mentioned is simply part of Penmachno (not the village on Anglesey as I wrongly assumed!)
In the 1800s, Penmachno was in the Yspyty Ifan sub-district of the Llanrwst Registration District.
The Llanrwst Registration District included parts of both Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire and the village of Yspyty Ifan was in Denbighshire. This is possibly why you keep seeing references to Denbighshire! Also, Ancestry have Penmachno incorrectly listed under Denbighshire in the 1911 census! But Penmachno was definitely in Caernarfonshire.
If you use most BMD searches you will only get the Registration District (Llanrwst), but if you use NWBMD you will get (the more accurate) sub-district (Yspyty Ifan).
The family appears to be:
David Hughes, born c1836, Penmachno
Anne Hughes, born c1830, Penmachno
Cadwaladr Pierce (later Hughes), born 1856, Penmachno
John D Hughes, born c1860, Penmachno
Owen Hughes, born c1862, Penmachno
David Hughes, born c1864, Penmachno
William David Hughes, born 1867, Penmachno
Jeremiah Hughes, born 1872, Penmachno
Lewis Hughes, born c1875, Penmachno
I can see David & Anne in the 1871 to 1901 censuses, but not earlier. So I'm guessing there may be some name changes?
It's possible that, if Cadwaladr Pierce was a stepson, Anne was previously a Pierce??? Only a copy of the birth certificate would prove this.
Unfortunately there were two Cadwaladr Pierce's born in that sub-district in 1856.
One was the son of Griffith & Ellinor Pierce and I don't think this is the one you are looking for as he appears with them in later censuses. But I can't see the other Cadwaladr Pierce on the 1861 census!
Looking for possible marriages for an Anne Pierce:
there is a possible marriage for a David Hughes and an Anne Pierce in the Caernarfon Registration District in 1850 Qtr 1.
but there's also a possibility for a Hughes-Richards link. There is a possible marriage for a David H Richards to an Ann Pierce in St Tyddud's parish church in Penmachno in 1856.
Is this "David H Richards" actually "David Hughes Richards" and later "David Hughes"??? Its a long shot but may be worth following?

Yes OK, I'll have them. I'm also a member of Clwyd FHS and some one in the centre might have an interest in some of them. Where can I come to fetch them?
Bryn

I know they can come under caernarfonshire, but when I have searched for the criteria during census dates they always seem to appear under county of denbighshire not caernarfonshire, hence I posted them under that catergory. I have always thought it should be caernarfonshire? I found the census on findmypast so maybe they have it wrong?

Thank you William Russell for your reply. What is the numbering system for buildings in Wales? (In Canada even numbers are used in sequence on the North and West sides of streets and uneven numbers are used in sequence on the South and East sides.) If I knew the numbering system maybe I could figure out where number 10 would be in relation to number 20.

I am researching this family for a friend in Abergele. She is a living descendent.
Perhaps we can swap notes.
