The Fanny owen/Owens to whom I am related was born in 1870 to Edward Owens and Mary Hall. It would appear that Edward had been married before judging fromthe ages of the children. Edward is listed as a butcher in Denbighshire(sp?) in the 1871 census.
Scott, Where was your Edward in 1871? I think that it is plausible that Fanny and John are half-siblings.
Fanny married James Sturgess. After his death, she married Fred Otley who had a family of four children from his previous marriage. Together they had another 5 children and then moved to Canada with the whole tribe.

The two chapels in Pentredwr were Bethesda (Calvinistic Methodist) which closed in the 1990s and Siloh (Wesleyan Methodists) which closed in 1972. I'm not sure if they had their own cemeteries though.
Pentredwr was not in Llangollen parish but in the neighbouring parish of Llantysilio ( http://www.clwydfhs.org.uk/churches/Llantysilio/ ), so he may have been buried there?
You might want to take a look at http://www.pentredwr.co.uk/ also.

Hello Listers
I'm carrying out some research for a friend of mine and we have come across
one of her ancestors who was born in France in 1854. My friend has no
knowledge of the family's background and has no idea why they would have been
there-the birth place is actually 'near Rouen'. The father is a Publican and Cow
Keeper, born in Chester, name John RUSCOE and his wife, Elizabeth, was born
in Cheshire.
Their children were all born in Chester apart from this one. I suspect that
she might possibly be their grandchild as there is a 12 year gap between her
and the next child and the mother would be around 49 !!
I wondered if anyone had any ideas as to why someone from a family in
Chester with no obvious connection to employment involving travel might have been
born there at this time !!
Regards
Maggi

Hi all
I need some help or advice i am trying to find out or locate were Ellis Williams would have been buried he died between 1938/1948 in Pentredwr Llangollen before it was demolished i think he was a non-conformist as there was a wesleyan chapel and a methodist chapel in the village, can anyone tell me if there is a cemetary close by or if he would have been buried in one of the local church graveyards.
Thanks in advance Sandy

Hello Barbara,
my ancesters were Matthias from Brymbo, my great grandfather was born in Brymbo in 1833. as was my 2xgt. grandfather but when he married he moved his wife and four of his sons to Staffordshire where they worked in the coal mines, my 2xgt. eventually moved back to Brymbo with his wife, where the rest of his chidren were living.
our greats go back about 5xgt. which I think would be late 1600's.
the greats were all mainly coal miners in wales apart from one who was a farmer but he was a real early one and his name was Thomas and not John like the rest of them were.
would be interesting to see if there is a connection with you as in Brymbo alone there were not too many Matthias especially as it is spelt with the double T.
JUNE.
