Looking in the 1881 Census there are only six Hugh Hughes' that are Plasterers in Wales. The nearest to Llangollen is a Hugh Hughes born in Cefn Mawr in 1860.The Hugh Hughes in Caernarvon is given as born in 1858 in the 1891 Census.

Several townships of Llangollen are 'officially missing' from the 1861 census:
Crogen Wladus; Cysylltau; Feifod; Llangollen Abad; Llangollen Fawr; Llangollen Fechan; Nantygwryd; Pengwern; Rhisgog
If your Hugh lived in one of these townships, which cover the majority of the town, then you will not be able to trace him via the census.

I'm trying to trace my great grandfather back to his birth in Llangollen around 1854. His name was Hugh Hughes. He was a plasterer and eventually ended up in Caernarfon but he was born in Llangollen. He was known as Hugh Llangollen so he must have lived there for some time. He should be in the 1861 census as a child but I can't find any trace of him. I'd be grateful for any hints.

Hello Phil,
You're almost certainly related to my wife's family. They are descended from Job's son Joseph. Joseph also lived on Pentrefelin, close to Benjamin, James Thomas's father.
I was contacted by Jennifer a while ago and sent her some information. Very interesting to hear from someone else connected to the family.

Hi June,
You can access my tree from this site - jseymourtree - or by my details Jane Seymour 24/4/69 Kettering Northamptonshire.
The relatives i am trying to find are also living relatives in north Wales, the Warburtons have been there since the late 1700's it is only the recent ones -1950 and later - i have come across that have married into the Matthias/Halliwell families. Some of the Warburtons also moved from Wales to Lancashire around 1900 which is where my mother was born from a third marriage of a Warburton and a Heath. I have not manages to trace back any previous relatives of Matthias/Halliwell as I have only just made the connection of the recent ones.
Good luck with your researching
Jane

Hello,
If somebody could please assist me...I am wondering if John W. Hays (b. circa 1808) has a birth record in the parish of Llanrhaeadr. What worries me a bit is that I notice that there are TWO Llanrhaeadr parishes nowadays (...ym Mochnant and yng Nghinmeirch), although maybe there was only ONE such parish in the early 1800s.
His U.S. naturalization papers say he was born in Landrider, Dembyshire, North Wales...Using Google, I have figured out that this means Llanrhaeadr, Denbighshire. The naturalization papers say he left from the port of Liverpool in June 1829 and arrived in Washington, America (landing at the port of Norfolk/Portsmouth, Virginia) in September 1829. I have determined that he arrived aboard the Julian on 23 Sep 1829, using Ancestry.com immigration records.
My question is with regard to his parentage. If somebody has access to church records (Methodist Episcopalian???) of the parish, could you please tell me if a John W. Hays (or John Hayes) was born in the area in that time frame? I so greatly appreciate any help in this manner. I so wish that I could be in Wales to do the research myself, but I'll have to wait a while to do that.
Sincerely,
Jan

Hi Jane,
may I check out your tree only it dos'nt say where to go to look at a tree on this site.
atthe moment I am trying to find living relatives in North wales but have'nt had any success as yet, all my findings are the greats and they have been dead for a couple of hundred years, but will keep on trying they will turn up one day. some of our ancesters moved out of north wales in the 1850's and went to staffordshire for work in the mines, that is where my father and my grandfather were born the rest were all in nborth wales. Brymbo/Wrexham. there were large families of Matthias too.
JUNE.

Hi June
Thanks for the reply. My Warburton relations go back to the late 1700's in Wales, then some moved to Lancashire, in recent generations Warburtons married a Matthias and a Halliwell. Their grandparent was a Martha Warburton, her children were Charlotte and Charles, their father was not listed on their births as they were born out of wedlock. You can check by looking at my tree if we have the same names in trees - you can find it by me, Jane Seymour born 24/4/1969 Kettering Northamptonshire, (Jseymourtree).
Thanks again
Jane. PS do you know if any are living in Wrexham,Broughton or near at this present time.

I have been stuck on David Jones born about 1793 in Pentrefoelas married to an Elizabeth born about 1793 in Llangynhafal. Awhile back I found a marriage for a David Jones and Elizabeth Williams dated 18 May 1816 in Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd...but didn't pursue it too much since the oldest child I have born to the couple was about 1825. When my sister in law to visit a few weeks ago from England she brought with her some fiche from the Clwyd Family History Society and I found on the Llangynhafal one a birth for an Elizabeth Williams born February 2, 1795 to Hugh and Elizabeth. Knowing it isn't THAT easy I was wondering if someone with access could look up the marriage in the original Llanbeder Dyffryn Clwyd Parish Register records and see if there is a father listed for Elizabeth?
Another clue that I think I am on the right track is David and Elizabeth named one of their sons Hugh.
Thanks in advance for any and all help with this,
Lainee

Hi, Jamie
Are you still looking for information on Benjamin Wilding? I think he is related to my wife's family. If so I have traced his relations back to Ellesmere in Shropshire around 1800. I have also been contacted by a lady from Lancashire who is related to James T Wilding. Please let me know if you still need information.

Lee
