Can I ask why you are trying the Denbighshire board?? East Sussex is quite
a distance away from this area of Wales?

Hi Geraldine,
Well, Roberts is one of the most common surnames here in the Llanrwst area!
(I was one of them!)
I have emailed my friend who has all the transcribed records for Llanrwst
Church , St Grwst (courtesy of CFHS) to see if she will do a look up for me.
iIshall inform you of the result as soon as I get it.
Cheers
Patricia

In the middle of my research papers I have just come across a reference to a
marriage between Benjamin Roberts and Ann/Jane? in Llanrwst Denbigh on July
15th 1794.
My Benjamin Roberts lived in Llansadwrn Carmarthenshire but, hopefully,
there is some connection. I don't know the name of the church and 1784 would
suit me much better! However, if anyone is able to confirm or add any detail
to this reference it would be much appreciated. I wonder if Roberts is a
common name in the area.
Thank you, Geraldine Morris

Because of other commitments I am unable to continue to manage the Clwyd,
Flint and Denbighshire lists. I have asked some of the regulars, off list,
if they want to take over the responsibilities but none have yet agreed.
If any list member feels able to take on the lists responsibilities can they
please volunteer before the first of next month. Otherwise the lists will be
handed back to Rootsweb as lists up for adoption.
All the best

Obviously the way to find Eleanor's maiden name is to obtain a copy of a birth certificate of any child or the marriage certificate.
>From the actual page images of the GRO index of marriages [free to view from Ancestry's search tab] there are only 3 marriages of a Robert Jones registered in the District of Llanwrst for 1887:
Jones Robert Q1 1887 Llanwrst vol 11b page 437
Jones Robert Q4 1887 Llanwrst vol 11b page 585
Jones Robert David Q4 1887 Llanwrst vol 11b page 586
Unfortunately the GRO index has not yet been fully transcribed on the FreeBMD web site for the above quarters [see note], so for now the only way of finding a matching entry [vol and page] for someone named "Eleanor" would be to search all pages of the GRO for each quarter listed above on Ancestry [GRO searches and image viewing is free].
Note: there are 5 entries per BMD register page x 2 names for a marriage = max 10 names per register page on freeBMD for a fully transcribed register page. For marriages mentioned there are less than 10 entries, so transcription incomplete for those quarters.
There are a quite a few births listed in GRO index of births between 1887 and 1891 that could be the two boys but the birth years need to be narrowed down a bit more. ]
What are approx year of births for Theo' and Robert Jnr? Have you found them in Canadian census?
Take care not to create problems and build walls looking for a middle name of "Offie" for Theo'. If I've understood it correctly, I believe "Offie" to be an corrupt or shortened version of Offylus, which is the Latin written form of the "spoken name" of Theophilus.
Have you confirmed date of arrival in Canada - how? Is it reliable?
Is it likely they departed UK after 5 April 1891? If so you should check out the 1891 census?
A quick check on Ancestry's census search showed some possible entries in 1891 Welsh Census for Theo b c1888 and Eleanor b c1842, unfortunately I don't have subscription so couldn't view image[s] for you.

Coed Cochion is a small holding/small farm, the big house in Llanfair TH is Garthewin Hall, this was in the Wynne family for many many years, they also had a theatre where they would put on shows for the locals, they were also one of the main employers for the village.

I am not saying I have the whole answer but one of possible reasons could be info I found on the BBC North Wales website that Quakers emigrated:-
In 1681, William Penn bought land in Pennsylvania in America, and a lot of the leading Quaker members in Wales decided to emigrate. They'd had enough and wanted to start a new life. So a lot of areas were bereft of their natural-born leaders, and the Quakers tended to die out in areas such as Dolgellau. Rowland Ellis of Brynmawr also moved to Philadelphia in 1687 and became a member of the government of the state. The prominent women's university, Brynmawr, is named after his home.

It will be a house or farm, I should think. It's very very early to be a hospital and a workhouse is not likely to have a name of this kind. Why not see if you can find it in 1861 census?

I am interested in making contact with anyone who has information on Ishmail DAVIES, a collier who was living at Vernon Street, Rhosddu, Wrexham in 1902. I am particularly interested in information about his daughter, Harriet Ann, who married William EVANS, of Seacombe Cheshire at Zion Chapel Wrexham in 1902.
