Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Dear Sharon,
I'm not on my home computer at the moment, so it may be that we have already corresponded on this matter, but if you haven't already been in touch with David Smallwood of Worcestershire on this matter, you really should - he has extensive material on the Smallwoods of Nortyh Wales. See my website www.bedfordpark.net/genealogy/smallwood for details.

Thanks so much Marion. Apparently my g-g grandfather Denton built the house of which I speak and it is still standing in town. I just don't know where.

Hi Sabina,
I have only just seen your message. I am originally from Trefnant but cannot say I know of the house you refer to.I will ask one of my cousins if she knows of it as she has done quite a lot of history of the area.
Will email you the facts when I have them
Regards Marion.
This is for Joan.
I agree with you.
Sorting out messages in the new style Digest is most confusing, replying to
an individual complicated.
Since 15th September I have been trying to get my Denbighshire Digest
changed to MIME which would revert the Digest to something approaching how
it was previously.
Although my other Lists; India, Glamorgan, SoG, Somerset have made the
change I have had no response to 3 off-line requests and 2 requests on List
for the change.
I do not know why. :(
This was a reply on another List to explain how straightforward it is to
make the change:

Hi John - go to your list tools and then membership management. Look for
Roger's email address and then untick the "plain" box next to the "digest"
box
Hope this helps

You were only one letter out in the spelling. It is Pantycarneddau
(Pant y carneddau)
pant = hollow, depression, valley
y = the
carnedd = cairn, mound, tumulus
So it means "Valley/hollow of the cairns".
You're lucky in that it is an uncommon name and it may be unique. I
can only find one occurrence.
Pantycarneddau, Pennal, MACHYNLLETH. SY20 9LE
This is the full postal address of a cottage/smallholding/farm.
For the general location go to
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/
Click on the large pink circular panel (I want to Get-a-map) in the centre.
Type in the post code.
You will be presented with either a section of the Ordnance Survey
1:25,000 or 1:50,000 maps. (In a rural area the post code will cover
several properties - not necessarily within the pink circle). The
blue grid lines are 1 km apart and the contours are at 10 m vertical
interval. You can zoom in or out as you wish and also view adjacent
sections via the panel on the left.
Pennal is the parish and it was in Merionethshire. The village and
parish church are at SH699005. You can enter this grid reference into

Has anyone heard of Pantyearneddau, North Wales? I doubt it is spelled correctly, but I could not find anything close to it on the Colfein maps. It is supposed to the be the birthplace of my GG grandmother Prudence Eleanor (Ellen) Griffith(s) Williams.

Dear Alwyn,
In response to your email I asked in September for Digest MIME but I am
still receiving Digest as a continuous list.
I would be most grateful if you would change my Denbigh Digest to MIME.

Subject: [DEN] ADMIN-New Digest format
Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2006 04:40:51 +0200
The Mailing lists starting with "WLS" have now been migrated to Rootsweb's
new "Mailman" system. This will be noticed by those list members who receive
their messages through the old "Digest" format.
Under the new system there are 2 options for you to choose from.
1.Plain text, which delivers the digest with a Table of Contents at the top
and a listing of full-text e-mails below. (This is the "default" way of
delivering digests at the moment)
2.MIME format which delivers the digests as e-mail 'attachments'
If any DIGEST members would prefer to receive their mail in MIME, please
contact me STATING WHICH LIST(S) you are subscribed to (I admin for all the
north Wales lists!)
All the best

Hello List,
I am sorry I may have asked this before but I am not certain, I've had a look at all my documents etc but I can't find anything so maybe I haven't asked.
I am trying to find a Hannah Roberts and her family in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census, 1841 being the most important I think as I am trying to get her parents names, all I have on her parents is an Ezra Roberts he was a Collier, Hannah Roberts was born about 1839 Minera.
I'm sorry its not much to go on, I have tried searching for them but I have failed and I am hoping that someone with better eyes and better knowledge can help me out.
Thank you very much in advance for any help given.
Rhiannon
Hello Rhiannon, I have looked on the census returns but cannot find the family. However, I have noticed a birth entry on northwalesbmd for a Hannah born 1839 of Wrexham. If you print off an application form from that website and forward it to the record office in Wrexham, noting the name of her father, they should then contact you to let you know if that birth entry is for your Hannah. I will keep scouring through the census returns in case I have missed anything. apart from that, i hope you have more luck with the birth entry
best wishes
Sharon

Have you searched the NorthWalesBMD or failing that the Hayes
Marriage Index? It could save you a lot of searching.
