Hello All,
I am trying (still) to unearth details of my Logan and Walker families. In January, 1825, my G/G/Grandparents were married in Denbigh. They had four children baptised there between 1824 and 1831. This is where I lose them until 1851in County Durham.
However, a kind couple. Doreen and John Hamilton from Canada found a John LOGAN in the 1841 Denbigh census. I am certain that he was a brother of my G/G/Grandfather.
I also know that Robert Walker,( who was a brother of Isabella WALKER, my G/G/Grandmother) married Elizabeth Edwards in 1826 in Denbigh and had a son Robert, and probably other children followed on.
Both John LOGAN and Robert WALKER were born in Scotland. Both were Tea Dealers.
I was wondering if the 1851 census for Denbigh is indexed, and if it is, could SKS please check for John Walker and Robert Walker, with a view to finding out where in Scotland they were born. If I could ascertain this information, it may lead me to finding out more about my James and Isabella LOGAN (Walker).
If the 1851 census for Denbigh is NOT indexed, could someone let me know.
Regards to the List, Norman Woods.
Hi David
Hastings is a seaside resort on the Sussex, to the SE of London - just east of Brighton and Eastbourne. I went there a couple of times when i lived in London.
In those days, I think, only reasonably comfortably off people stayed in such 'guest houses'. Perhaps Matilda was taking a break or recovering from some illness.

Hi Judy,
Thankyou for the Census information you found in Debighshire.
Now I just need to prove this is the right David Williams. Would David's
marriage or death record list who his parents are?

Hi Judy,
Thankyou very much for all this information. David's occupation
is listed as a commercial traveler. What exactly is a commericial traveler?
David and his family did move all over England and Wales. David's son Alfred
Charles Williams was born 4 March 1863 in Chorlton upom Medlock, Manchester.
Alfred is my great great grandfather. Alfred's son Dudley Lemare Williams (my
great grandfather) was born in Hackney, Stamford Hill, London on 14 Dec 1890.
On the 1871 Census, David and his family are living in Queens
Terrace, Moss Side, Manchester. (RG 10/4007 folio 20). The only problem is his
birthplace has a line through it and is unreadable. I will have to take your
advice and see if I can locate them on the 1861 Rhyl Census. Does anyone have
access to the 1861 Rhyl census?
Thanks again for all your help. I will keep digging.

Charles Thompson
Iam new to the list and I am enquiring about my
GG/Gfather Thomas Evans.
Thomas native place is given as Newport Wales.
But on his Convict Record it states that he was convicted at Denbigh Wales on the 19.10.1847.
And was sent to Tasmania, arriving on the 5.10.1850. He had a Brother called Morgan, a Sister called Mary and his Mothers name was Kath
Maybe Catherine, His children whether Male or Female most of whom had the name Morgan.
As a second or third name.
He was sentenced for stealing a horse from a
Matthew Evans.
And that he was a member of the 75th Regiment.
And that he had bought his own discharge.
And that he was a widow and also had a letter
stating that his wife had died.
How can I find records of him being in the 75th Regiment.
and is there an 1841 census for Denbigh and Newport.
As I would love to know if his Fathers name was Thomas or Morgan. Or any information that is possible.
Can anyone help???

Hi Charles,
The LDS 1881 census actually says "Kenlton", which makes it even more
obscure. Could it possibly a corruption of Henllan which is near the
town of Denbigh.
In the 1891 census he is living in Hornsey in north London, married, but
no mention of his Matilda! His sons David, Norman and Robert are still
living with him. His place of birth is given as "Denbigh, Wales", but
whether that means the town or county of Denbigh is unclear.
Let me know if you want full details of the 1891 entry.
Regards,
Ian

Hello Charles (again)
I've just checked the 1881 census for full details. Unfortunately, it looks as if David Williams's birthplace has been mistranscribed/badly written by enumerator - there is no such place as 'Kenlton' in Denbighshire. I then had a quick look on the 1891 census but could not find either him or his wife Matilda. I noticed that their 2nd and 3rd sons, John and Henry - aged 21 and 19 resp in 1881, were born in Rhyl, Flintshire. Subesequent children were born in Manchester. They then moved to Willesden, a suburb of London then but now part of London, sometime after about 1875/6. Perhaps it might be worth having a look on the 1861 census for Rhyl for this family - or the 1871 for Manchester. You might then be able to get a better 'take' on were David was born.
Hope this helps

Hello Charles
I've just seen your message. I'd given up because Rootsweb are having server problems and you've just come through. I have lots of stuff that I can look at - but I'd like to re-enforce Jo's message - join the Clwyd list when it gets back.

Hello Charles
I couldn't find a Keniton in Denbigh.........................Doesn't of
course mean there isn't one though!!! Perhaps when the rootsweb lists are back
up and running, (this is the only one that is getting through to me at the
moment) you could try subscribing to the Clwyd list. If the place exists I'm
sure someone there will have heard of it.
I did find Kinnerton, but it was in Radnorshire, Powys. And Kelsterton, but
that's in Flintshire.
You could have another look yourself though:
