I have a Joe Gittins in my family tree, who married,Margaret Jones, and lived in Mold in Glanrafon Road , Mold, as my Dad can remember visiting them in 1949.
Margaret Jones in this case was a sister to my grandmother Mary Frances Jones(b1904) and also sister to John Huw Jones (dec.) and Winifred Jones.
This may well be the source of some Gittins/Jones interest as all the children were split up when very young.
I don't want to say anything further so as not to spring any unwanted surprises!!
Please e-mail me personally if you have any interest.
Thank you,yours,
Brian Warburton.

No ,I dont mind you contacting me at all :), after all I am getting
plenty of help from this list, and the people participating.
Thats another coincidence before you start!!! My mother divorced my
father after 30 years of marriage, and emigrated to Melbourne , Australia to
marry a Turkish man...
Yes, I know Shuttington Road , both Shuttington and Tamworth sides.I
should imagine that any records are held at Lichfield Town Hall , Lichfield
, Staffordshire , or perhaps the place that I got married at 5 years ago
:)))) (another coincidence!!) , Lichfield Registry Office...
Good luck and let me know some more about what sort of timeframe you are
looking at , I can certainly tell you whether or not the house is still
there with no trouble...

Dear Trefor
have you tried searching the online records for the National Library of
Wales for anything to do with Gwydir etc. I know I found some papers online
that dealt with the older occupants of gwydir. I think the URL is
www.llgc.orghttp://www.safara.co.uk/clients/gwydircastle/history.htm this is a link for
a site on Gwydir Castle.
Best wishes

I am almost certain that either Gwynedd or Clwyd FHS did an index of death
announcements from the Daily Post some years ago, and I am also almost
certain that there is a copy of it in Llandudno library.
Unfortunately I can't offer to do look ups (or even check to see if my memory
is correct on this matter) until the school holidays are over. If you have no
joy before then, e-mail me again in the middle of September and I shall go to
Llandudno to see if I can find a notice in the 30's for 23 the Wylfa, Ruthin.
Another angle might be to look at MIs for the Ruthin area to see if you can
find the address.
All the best
Alwyn
I stand corrected and I'm very glad about it.
I'd only ever heard the South Wales words, spoken, and because the
pronunciation of the Letter "u" in the South is like the North Wales "i"
(phonetically English "ee" as in thee), I arrived at the wrong conclusion.
Dadgi and Mamgi mean "father of dog" and "mother of dog" and after your
correction you can understand my great relief!
Interested in the Plurals? The Welsh Academy Dictionary gives the following:
taid -- teidiau
tad-cu -- tad-cuod
nain -- neiniau
mam-gu -- mam-guod
In the same "look-up" I read that the Welsh equivalent of "teach your
grandmother to suck eggs" is, in English, "the lamb teaching the sheep to
graze" and/or "teaching a prayer to a parson". Thought I'd share that with
you!
Howell.

Is this Sevenoaks in Kent?

The correct spelling is 'tad-cu' and 'mam-gu'.
tad = father
mam = mother
cu = dear, beloved; dear one

Hello All---
I am a relatvely new subscriber and want to say how much I am enjoying
reading the messages back and forth. It makes me feel good to know that there
are researchers that hit pay dirt from time to time.
I have been trying for years to find the place of burial of one of my
ancestors, Anne Lloyd Yale Eaton. She was the daughter of Bishop George Lloyd
of Chester. She was a Puritan that returned from the American Colonies and
died at the "Pole" near Sevenoaks and Antrobus. It was the ancestral home of
her husband that died in Connecticut. She died in March of 1658, but is
nowhere to be found in the parish records of Antrobus. Are there any
descendants of hers out there that would know anything of "The Pole" or her
place of burial? It is a shame that her genealogical record should be lacking
this information. Thanks....

Hello All,
The Welsh dictionary has the spelling Tad-cu and Mam-gu. Though it
does sound like an 'i'.
My Taid and Nain Jones were from Cefn Mawr, Nth Wales.

Howell, you stole my thunder! I went to the enormous expense and effort to
telephone my brother who`s wife is South Walian to ask about this regional
thing and what she gave me was just that -- but-- she gave a different
spelling to Dadgi which was Dadci. I am pleased that my Nain and Taid are
from Anglesey, it sounds much nicer!

Do not despair - it may not be that difficult. Nain Pentre came from a place
called Pentre or Pentresomething, to distinguish her from Nain Denbigh, say.
To cut your search down a bit, Nain's don't come from all over Wales - only
north and mid Wales :-)
You may find clues in census information (or even in personal names) of later
generations which may tell you which Pentre you're looking for, and that's
half the battle won.
Who told you she was always called Nain Pentre? Is that person still alive?
If so s/he may be able to tell you why Pentre.
Good hunting
