For attention: Ed Porter,
Hello, Ed, I was disappointed to read about the man who wouldn't let you have the
details of ownership of land. Some time ago, in a similar situation, I wrote a pleading
letter to a family in Llangeitho, Cardiganshire, whose property figures in my family, and
they gave me permission to write to their solicitor and ask for a copy of the deeds, which
I duly received. I subsequently wrote the family a thank you letter and called by at the
farm at their invitation some months later. Luckily, they were interested in the history
of the land.
I think I've aleady directed you, as others very helpfully have, to the site
www.cefnpennar.com so do take a look at that. Possibly the farm was part of the Hafod
estate.
When I'm up in Lledrod over Easter ( finally going to tackle the 200 year old grave of
my FELIX family in the churchyard there - I'll take photos and email them to you)
I'll ask my distant cousin who lives in the village about the Esgair Mwyn mine: she
knows a lot about the local properties. Also, as a young girl, my mother rugularly visited
her Herbert relatives at a farm called 'Esgair Maen' (her pronunciation) which had
apparently been passed down to them via the FELIX-es. It was near Cors Goch/Tregaron bog.
Regards, Laura (DAVIES).
