Thanks John, I have to say it did throw me a little, to see the words
Merthyr Tydfil on the Brecon 1841 census. But now you have explained I can
see why.

Dear Tricia,
Jill Muir's statement was correct.
The webpage to which you refer comprises a list of Registration Districts
and the areas they covered.
The list indicates that the 'Merthyr Tydfil Registration District'
included
parts of Penderyn and Vaynor, both of which are in the county of
Breconshire.
The significance of this information is that births, marriages, and deaths
which took place in Penderyn and Vaynor would have been recorded in the
Merthyr Tydfil BMD registers. And because registration districts generally
coincide with census districts, census entries for Penderyn and Vaynor
would
be found in the census records for Merthyr Tydfil census district.
Neither of the above statements mean that the town of Merthyr Tydfil was
in
Breconshire; nor do they mean that the ecclesiastical parish of
Methyr
Tydfil was in Breconshire. The town and parish were in Glamorgan.
Under the heading 'Description and Travel', on the Merthyr Tydfil page of
the GENUKI website, you'll find a list of the places, villages, farms,
etc.,
that were in Merthyr Tydfil parish. To see the list, go to:

Kind regards,
John
