Dear Gwynne,
Good to hear from you again and learn that you are still progressing your
Powell line.
I have a match for your Benjamin Powell senior in my death index, which
reads as follows: -
June quarter 1875, Benjamin POWELL aged 88, page number 87, volume number
11b.
I have transcribed the POWELL names for the 1861 census of Breconshire and I
believe the above death relates to the following head of family: -
RG9/4210/84/1
Llandeilo'r Fan, Defynnog.
Residence: "Beili-glas"
POWELL, Benjamin head / m / 74 / saddler
POWELL, Ann wife / m / 67
POWELL, John son / u / 24
All born Llandeilo'r Fan
Incidentally, the Powys Family History Society have produced in booklet form
a surname index for most of the 1861 census of Breconshire.
I hope the above is the ancestor that you are looking for.
Regards,
Glyndwr (Glyn) Davies,
Chatham, Kent, UK.

Hi Glyn,
It's Gwynneth Wright here. I'm still plugging away at my Powells.
I noticed this email on the Brec list and that you have an index of Powell
Deaths in Brec. I'm still looking for the death of my Benjamin sr. He was
born in Llandeilo'r Fan around 1786.
He was still there in 1851. His son Benjamin Powell was married in 1863
while living in Clydach, Llanelli, Brec and his father is not mentioned as
deceased on the marriage cert, although I know that doesn't mean he was
still alive. I've been working my way through the deaths fiche at the LDS
but some years are missing and some are unreadable.
I've found Ben jr dead in 1923 (Crickhowell dis). Do you have any deaths
in
the Crickhowell or Devynnock districts who could be my Benjamin sr?
I've ordered burial and MI fiche from the FHS but still haven't been able
to
find him.
I've had the Brec 1861 census on order for months at the LDS but it still
hasn't arrived, so I don't even know if he was alive then.
If it's not too much trouble, I'd really appreciate a look up.
Gwynne
