Tom <Major0009(a)aol.com> asked:
Could someone please tell me if Llangattock is in Breconshire and if
so
which
1841 census covered the area.
Hi Tom!
LLangattock is an Ecclesiastical Parish, and also a Civil Parish and an
Enumeration Sub-District within the Crickhowell Enumeration District of the
old county of Breconshire.
The largest settlement wholly within Llangattock Parish seems to be ... the
village of LLangattock. The Sub-district also includes the Civil Parish of
Penallt, and some northern parts of Brynmawr and north-eastern parts of
Beaufort.
If you can't find the folios you need under the anglicised spelling, try
searching for LLangattwg.
In the 1851 Census, there was only one person with the surname Jeffreys in
Llangattock, a visitor in the following household in Brynmawr:
1851 Census of Breconshire - CRICKHOWELL Enumeration District HO107:2490
Parish of LLANGATTOCK - Brynmawr in the Parish of Llangattock
Folio 213 - Page 19 - Dwelling: Well Street
POWELL James, h, m, 38, labourer, MON L'gattock Vibon
POWELL Esther, w, m, 38, --------, MON L'gattock Vibon
POWELL James, s, u, 14, labourer, MON Rockfield
POWELL William, s, u, 12, labourer, MON L'gattock Vibon
POWELL Mary Ann, d, u, 04, --------, BRE Brynmawr
JEFFREYS James, vs, u, 25, miner, MON Monmouth
There were plenty of other Jeffreys in other parts of Breconshire, but the
closest places of birth to Llangattock Parish, seem to be those in the
adjacent Llanelly Parish.
Hope this helps!
x Kate.
