Hi...David
This might not be the case of Margaret being illegitimate, have you thought
of her mother being a widow and then remarrying later?
I have had a look on the 1861 census of the St, Marys and St, Johns district
of Brecon town, there is no Margaret Hall aged 7 to 8 on there.
On the census there are two Hall families in High Street, one family as a
Draper and the other as a Chemist and Druggist. (Shop keepers) not a child
in sight!, again Margaret could be a niece, have you tried to find her birth
certificate?..... Mum would be on there.
What name did she take when she married in 1874, I can find her on the 1881
census and this might help?
Best wishes..... Jack Hayes, (Pencoed, Mid-Glamorgan,Wales)

Subject: Brecon/HALL DAVIES 1861 or 71 census
This is my first posting to this list. I have just discovered my
first
Welsh
ancestors. If any lister has access to the 1861 0r 71 census for
Brecon I
would be very grateful for any sightings of a Margaret HALL. She was
married at Brecon Register office in 1874 while living at High Street,
Brecon
and was aged 20 then. Her father was Rees DAVIES, a labourer,
deceased at
the
time of the marriage. She was a spinster so I am assuming that with
the
different surname of the father means she was born out of wedlock to a
mother
named HALL
If either of the above appear in censuses or parish registers to which
you
may have access I would be very pleased to hear from you.
