Hi Linda,
there are seven vowels in the Welsh language. A, E, I, O, U, W, Y
they always sound the same, not as the A in say Apple and Ape, two different
sounds. The other time they may sound different is if they are with another
vowel.
A as in Apple,
E, as in Egg,
i is called e dot and is as in bee
o as in orange
u called e bedol ( horseshoe) or e cupan (cup) in the north. In the south it
is said the same as the i dot but in the north has more of a throat sound.
w as in zoo
y as in love
your Llaninthrol could be spell Llanynddrol and sound exactly the same. The
double d, as in Llanddew sounds the same as the english th. Maybe someone
that could only write in English wrote them down. Neither of them sound right
to me.
