Hello All!
First off... thank you all so very much for your help and assistance.
Hopefully I'll get the hang of researching Wales and it's resources before
you all throw me off the list!
So, it seems that the two birth records I've found thus far (in Neath and
Aberayron) are probably NOT the Magdalene I'm in search of, since according
to all the information gathered, she was born in Brecon.?
I'm just amazed that you all are able to access the 1851 census so quickly.
Would any of you mind sharing where I might purchase (CD or on Online) the
BRE 1851 -1871 census? I have the
genealogy.com subscription of the 1851
census but find it virtually useless since it seems to be more of an index
and doesn't show the family together. Is anyone familiar with this site:
http://212.67.202.176/~rwj/EBooks.html
And just so I'm reading the census correctly, the county (BRE) is listed
first, and then it states the parish (ex. St. Mary) within the county in
which they were born?
(We're not lucky enough here in the states to have this much information
taken during a census!)
Joyce

Hi folks!
Below is the household that Jack found in the 1851 Census index from Powys
FHS - but which household was cunningly concealed in the transcription
pages, by a glitch in the contents page.
Penlan is the name of the THOMAS' family residence at that time, and
there's
an approximate grid reference for it below the household
transcription.
Along with it, are Magdalene & her parents in the 1861 Census, and
possibilities for siblings Thomas & Elizabeth.
Last of all, is a Magdalene MORGAN which may be of interest.

This Magdalene and her parents are easy to spot in the 1861 census:

Here is one possibility for sister Elizabeth - but this one seems to be
Mrs
rather than Miss THOMAS:

Apart from that, the next best match is:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

PRO Ref RG9 - Piece 4207 - Folio 056 - Page 01

These THOMAS siblings have no obvious counterparts in the 1851 Census, and
LLywel is just within the Parish of Llandeilo'r Fan.
Here's a similarly aged Magdalene MORGAN in 1851, from that cross-over
area
between Brecknock & Glamorgan which is part of Neath Registration
District.

Not having any census transcriptions covering western Cardiganshire, I
can't
help you with any Aberaeron entries.
Hope this helps!
Kate.
