Jack!
As my kids say sometimes... your rock! Yes! It must be especially
considering the name REES Thomas. All seems to fit together so perfectly...
it scares me! Now to figure out which of the two birth records to request.
Maybe if I give the information on the parents name with a note, they'll
know which to send.
I tried faxing my request this afternoon, but both fax numbers on the GRO
website says they were disconnected.? I know I didn't mis-dial. My fax
went through just fine a week ago?
So what you're saying is, Neath and Aberayron are really part of
Brecon/Brecknock, but at the time of Magdalen's birth, it was in a different
County?
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post. I truly appreciate it.
Joyce

Hi..Joyce
What you will find that Brecknock is an area, which incorporates Brecon,
and
outlying parts of other counties, which includes parts of Glamorgan
as
well
as well as Carmarthen.
This is the 1851 census of Brecknock, below is a part of Carmarthenshire
that came under Brecknock at this time
Is this your family?,
THOMAS Elizabeth, d, u, 12, , BRE Defynog, Penlan,
89/f538/p6
THOMAS Elizabeth, w, m, 45, , BRE Llandeilo'r Fan, Penlan,
89/f538/p6
THOMAS Magdalene, d, u, 6, , BRE St Mary, Penlan,
89/f538/p6
THOMAS Rees, h, m, 46, farm lab BRE Llandeilo'r Fan Penlan
89/f538/p6
THOMAS Thomas, s, u, 20, , BRE Llandeilo'r Fan, Penlan,
89/f538/p6
Best wishes.....Jack (Wales, UK)

Subject: Town/Location Question
> Greetings List,
> I've found two records, and not being familiar with the geography of
Wales yet, I'm hoping someone could give me a bit of advise.
> Thanks to the help of many, especially Margaret Harvey, I've received
the birth record of my husband's great grandfather, Thomas Rees Martin and
on it states his mothers name as Magdalen Martin, formerly Thomas.
> I've found two birth records of a Magdalen Thomas born the year she
was
born (1845.) The two places of birth are Neath and Aberayron. On
the
1881
census, it states she was born in Brecknock, Wales. From what
I've been
able to tell from the maps, both Neath and Aberayron on in Cardiganshire.
Is that correct?

> Any advise or suggestions on how to approach this would be welcomed.
Also, would it be advisable to get a birth record of one of Thomas'
siblings
first, to see if the information is the same for the mother's
maiden name?
