Dear Sue,
The Brecknock Union Workhouse was situated in the parish of St. David's,
Brecon Town.
During the course of passing years the name of the establishment changed its
name from 'Union Poor House' to 'Union Workhouse' to 'Union House in
this
parish' to 'Gorphwysfa'. In 1949 it became St. David's Hospital for the
elderly infirm. Later still it became the Eppynt Ward of the Brecon War
Memorial hospital. The original workhouse building was bought by Christ
College for pupils' accommodation.
I hope this helps.

Subject: Brecknock Union Workhouse
Dear Listers
I have a query regarding Brecknock Union Workhouse, that I hope someone
will be able to help me with.
I recently obtained a death certificate regarding a William FOSSEY who
died on 20th December 1901 at Union Workhouse Brecknock.
I thought I would look him up on the 1901 census, but there was no entry
for him when I checked under his name. I also could not find any
mention of Brecknock Union Workhouse in the 1901 Census, despite
searching on several options.
Can anyone help?
Regards
Sue Shade
