Hello,
Here are my notes on Thomas GRIFFITHS, the father:
Census: 1881 Census of England & Wales, Swansea, Hamlet of St. Thomas,
Ecclesiastical Parish or District of St. Mary's.
Address:
35 Mackworth Street: Thomas Griffiths, head of family, unmarried, age 76, no
occupation, born in Llansanfraid, Breconshire. FHL Microfilm 1,342,293 page
19, stamped 129. PRO Ref: RH11 Piece 5363 Folio 129.
*I think he was Annie's grandfather, since he is living in the house where she
gave birth to Aunt Mae in 1879.
Here are the notes on Thomas GRIFFITHS, the son:
Listed as father on Annie's marriage record in 1879, he was deceased.
CENSUS: 1871 British Census in Llansamlet Higher, Glamorgan, Wales at Cefnygarth
House. He is listed as age 43, born at St. Michael, Brecon, Wales, occupation:
plate layer. His wife is Mary, age 37 and he has six children listed: Elizabeth
17, Anne 15, Mary 12, Thomas, 10, William 7 and Sarah age 2.
I haven't found them on any earlier census records. The wife Mary, is Mary
Jenkins. They were married 4 Dec 1852 at the Parish Church of Llanelly. Her
father is Thomas Jenkins. The first four children were born at Llangattock. I
wish I could find the parish records.
The children would be:
Elizabeth GRIFFITHS born about 1853 Llangattock
Annie GRIFFITHS born 16/17 Aug 1855 Llangattock [my great great grandmother]
Mary GRIFFITHS about 1858 Llangattock
Thomas GRIFFITHS about 1861 Llangattock
Then they moved to Glamorgan's Swansea area to work in the mine. Any help would
be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Shanna Jones
