Hello all,
This is my first request to this list.
I have been tracing a family by the name of BRADFORD and I have found them
near to Dukestown in the 1841 census.
They originated in Gloucestershire but moved to Dukestown sometime between
1824 and 1830, for reasons of work probably. About 1824 the family consisted
of John Bradford, his wife Ann (formerly Pegler) and children Mary Ann
(possibly Marianne)11, Charlotte, Charles 2, and Amelia just born. Another
daughter, Sarah was born in Dukestown in 1830.
John Bradford and Mary Ann do not appear in the 1841 census but John is
named and has an occupation on the marriage certificate of Charles dated
1844 (at Dowlais, Glam.) and of Sarah dated 1852 (at Llangynidr Parish
Church). I cannot find either Charlotte, Charles or Amelia again after 1841.
There is another mystery over Charlotte. Her birth is recorded in Painswick,
Glos. parish records and IGI in 1820 but there is also a burial in 1822 at
Painswick. I was only told of the burial record yesterday. Her death may
have been the reason for giving Charles the 'same' name. However Charlotte
is noted as being only 14 yrs. old in 1841 census so was there another
Charlotte and was she born in Llangynidr parish?
Only Ann and Sarah appear in the 1851 census. I have yet to search other
Breconshire censuses but ask if anyone has knowledge of the family in
Llangynidr at any time between 1824 and 1852. I think there must be records
of them, even their burials, in Llangynidr parish registers - where is the
best place for me to search these records?
Following Sarah's marriage to John Price in 1852 she moved to Blaina and I
have been able to trace her descendants. John Price was born in Hay around
1825 and was a shoemaker - his father was James Price.
In the new year I shall start my Breconshire searches but any information to
give me a start will be appreciated.
Best wishes to all for Christmas and the New Year,
John,
