Please can anyone tell me anything about the above places? They are on my
great grandparents' marriage certificate in 1869. They were married in the
Parish Church of Garthbrengy & her dwelling was given as Danyllan.

Dear Elvery,
There is some information about the parish of Garthbrengi on the Breconshire
pages of the GENUKI website, including a mention of Dan-y-llan (farm). See
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/Garthbrengi/
Dan-y-llan is identified by name on the electronic parish maps which
accompany "Historic Parishes of England and Wales" by R. J. P. Kain and R.
R. Oliver, R.R (published 2001).
You can call up a highly detailed (1:10,560-scale) late 19th century map of
this area by going to the Old Maps website at
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
On the main page, select the "Co-ordinates" option in the search facility
(near top left of the page). In the search field enter the co-ordinates
304857,233005 (without any spaces) and click the Search button.
When the small map appears, click on the "Enlarged view" button below the
map. A highly detailed large map of the area will open in a new window,
centred on Dan-y-llan.
You can save the enlarged view map to your hard disc by clicking on the map
with your right mouse button and selecting the "Save Picture As..." option
in the menu which appears.
Dan-y-llan is also shown on modern UK Ordnance Survey maps. You can see the
relevant section of a large scale Ordnance Survey map at the Get-A-Map
website
http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm
In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter
GARTHBRENGY into the search field and click the GO button. By using the zoom
control buttons to the middle left of the map you can obtain a 2 km x 2 km
section of a 1:25,000 scale 'Explorer' map showing Dan-y-llan.
Kind regards,
John
