Hi All
I only have one interest so far in Breconshire that being the BEAVAN family
of Llangamarch My GGGG Grandfather Ebenezer BEAVAN on various census from 1851
has stated he was born in Wales, and Llangamarch.
If I base his birth year on the info he gave the enumerator in Cardiff 1881
I would have no chance as he states age 60 born Wales.
In Basaleg Mon.1861 he states age 46 born Llangamarch and in Basaleg Mon
1851 he states age 36 born Llangamrach.
So I have to work on him being born circa 1815 in Llangamarch.
The parish registers I have checked through show no Ebenezer BEAVAN born
around that date.
But at Llangamarch 8th March 1795 there is an Ebenezer baptised the son of
James and Ruth BEVAN. This is 20 years too early!!! was Ebenezer lying about
his age?
Then on 4th April 1814 at Llangamarch Hannah the natural daughter
(illegitimate) of Ebenezer BEVAN of Penrhiw and Hannah MORGAN was baptised.
By 1815 Ebenezer appears to have married (I still have more to check out on
this as time ran out)
On 30th April at Llangamarch Roger was baptised the son of Ebenezer BEVAN
farmer of Penrhiw and his wife Elizabeth. Other children follow.
The plot thickens because in 1840 at Basaleg my Ebenezer and his wife Dinah
have a daughter and they name her Hannah (my GGG Grandmother). Why Hannah
there are none in Dinah's JONES family.
So I start to think did Ebenezer BEVAN of Penrhiw have another child by
Hannah MORGAN which they named Ebenezer and due to the fuss Hannah must have gone
through in the baptism of her first illegitimate child never bothered to
baptise him.
Do you ever wish you had never started.
Is Hannah MORGAN my GGGGG Grandmother???
If so Hannah BEAVAN was named after her Grandmother and her father's sister.
Or Ebenezer of Penrhiw did a runner and lied about his age when he got to
Basaleg and continued to for years.
