Hi.... Linda
I have found eight William Sandford's from the age 14 to 16 on the 1901
census
At this age William was aged 15, the closest William I have found to Wales
was........
William aged 15 was born in Newport Monmouthshire,
and was living in Chepstow with his mother in 1901, who was
called.............
Ruth, 38,
also brothers called
Albert aged 14,
George 10,
Edgar aged 7
Did you have any of David's brothers with the same names as his uncles
above? or a sister called Ruth?
Did William have a second Christian name, this is what he might have used in
the Army?
Best wishes....Jack Hayes

Subject: [WLS-BRE] WILLIAM SANDFORD BRECON
Hello all
My father was David Islwyn Sandford, born in Brecon in 1923 and I am
trying
to find out more information about my grandfather William Sandford
who
died
in Brecon town in 1950. He was born in 1885, but I don't know
where, and
was a soldier in the South Wales Borderers from 1905-1919. SWB and Kew
can
find no records for him. He married Sylvia Williams (from Prospect
Row in
Brecon) in 1914 and after the war he worked for the roads dept. for the
local council. I have been told he was quite a good local heavyweight
boxer and would love to know more - can anyone confirm this for me? Also I
have been told there was a "feud" in Brecon between the Williams and the
Phillips families (my grandmother Sylvia Williams was the daughter of
George Williams and Ann Phillips from Pendre) Does anyone know anyway I
can
find out more please? Are there any Sandford's still living in
Brecon?
Maybe someone out there is researching the same families.
Many thanks
Linda
