Hi there,
I am new to the list and am hoping to get some pointers from those of you who have
been deeling with Welsh genealogy.
My 3g grandparents traveled from Wales to Arvonia, Osage Co., KS in 1868. They were
John R. and Magdalene JONES. John was born in Cardiff on 6-1-1830 and Magdalene was born
somewhere in Wales in 1819. Quite a bit of age difference back then when the woman was
older! They had 5 children there and brought them to the USA. They were:
Mary b. 1850 Wales
John N. b. 1-25-1852 Cardiff, Wales
Rees (my line) b. 10-17-1855 Breconshire Cum De, Wales
David C. b. 5-9-1858 Breconshire Cum De, Wales
William W. b. 6-14-1861 Breconshire Cum De, Wales
My family has tried to do some researching on them but have not gotten anywhere. The
only reason that we know they traveled when they did was because they told that to other
family members. I had a gr-aunt that traveled to Wales and was unlucky in uncovering
anything.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we may break down this wall? I not only would like
to find out where Magdalene was from and her surname; but also who their parents were.
Also, what does the term "Cum De" refer to?
Thank you for your time,
Anita McKinney
