The three children that I gave you are the only ones that William & Jane had
baptised at St. David's Church, Llanfaes, Brecon.
Here are the burial details relating to your g-grandfather and other members
of your family: -
St. David's Churchyard, Llanfaes, Brecon. grave 42.6
Tall sandstone headstone, pillared sides, curved floral top, East of the
row.
"In loving memory of William John, eldest son of W. J. Matthews of this
town, basketmaker, who was accidentally drowned while bathing in the River
Avon at Evesham July 8th 1893, aged 22 years.
Also of the said William Johnson Matthews departed this life April 4th 1905,
aged 96 years.
Also of Joan, wife of the said William Johnson Matthews, who died 16th Sept.
1930, aged 79 years".

Second, I wonder if I could presume upon you a little. You have very
kindly
provided details of the baptisms of three additional children of
William
and
Jane.
I assume that the first two died in infancy as both should have showed up
on
the 1851 census. Could you possibly look for baptism dates for the
remaining
children Sophia, Medina, William (William Johnson MATTHEWS - my
g-grandfather) and Catherine (and add middle names if poss).
Could I also have further details if you have them of the MATTHEWS basket
makers at Watton as I seem to be collecting them!
