Hi Listers,
On Monday, as part of a photographic commission, I visited Pen-yr-heol
Chapel near Glasbury-on-Wye, Breconshire. The chapel is at grid
reference SO209359, about 1½ miles south-east of the village of Tregoyd
and 2½ miles south-east of Glasbury-on-Wye.
Part of my brief was to find and photograph a headstone belonging to my
client's ancestors.
While searching the graveyard for the headstone (which I eventually
found), I made a note of the surnames on every headstone bearing a
legible inscription.
As the graveyard contained some unusual surnames, my notes may be of
some use to Powys and Breconshire List members. I have therefore copied
them below, sorted alphabetically:
BREESE; CROMPTON; DAVIES; DIPLOCK; EDWARDS; EVANS; GITTINS; GOODWIN;
GREENHOW; GREENOW; GREENWAY; GRENHOW; GRENNOW; GRIFFITHS; HAMER; HARRIS;
JAMES; JENKINS; JONES; KINSEY; LEWIS; LLOYD; MADDY; MASSER; MEREDITH;
MORGAN; NICHOLLS; PARRY; PHILLIPS; POWELL; POWELL; PRICE; PRITCHARD;
PROTHERO; PROTHEROE; RICHARDS; SANDERS; SAUNDERS; STEPHENS; TEAGUE;
THOMAS; TRAVERS; TURNER; WATKINS; WILLIAMS.
Please note that I do not have the detailed monumental inscriptions, but
I believe the Powys FHS may have published them, together with the
Glasbury-on-Wye MIs. You can check via the Powys FHS website at:

Best wishes,
John
