Hi Mary
The Royal Welsh Fusiliers (23rd Regiment) were based at Brecon for five
years until Monday 28th June 1830, when they departed for Plymouth and,
presumably, thereafter for Ireland.
The army records, including the general muster books and pay lists, are
available at the National Archives, Kew:
23rd Foot, 1st Battalion, 1829: WO 12/3982
23rd Foot, 1st Battalion, 1830: WO 12/3983
Perhaps someone may be doing similar research and know a little more and/or
be able to look up the relevant entries for you?
There should be useful genealogical information attached to Edward's army
record, but it's a research 'project', moving backwards and forwards through
successive muster books, rather than a single 'look-up' to tease out what is
required!
Best regards
Clive Gardener

Hello Mary
Have you considered looking for Edward's Army record ?
He was almost certainly in the Royal Artillery being at Brecon Barracks.
If you could get his record, that may well show where he was posted.
David

Hello
My 3x grandparents Edward McGrath and Margaret Dealey/Daly were married
Brecon St Mary on 16 April 1829. Edward is noted as a soldier. Their son
John Michael or Michael John was (according to census) born Brecon
Barracks c1829/1830. I have been unable to find his baptism in 'Family
Search'. By April 1831 they are in Ireland where their second son Dennis
is baptised.
Also 2nd Aug 1829, in the same parish register, a Joseph Dealy (a nailor)
marries Sarah Jones. I am thinking that Joseph and Margaret are siblings.
I have been unable to find any further trace of Joseph and Sarah and
wonder if anyone has this family in their line?
Any information or suggestions would be very welcome.
Kind Regards
Mary
