I am hunting for the Walter Penry Family that came to Radnor Ohio around
1815-1819. Walter Penry was married to Ann Davis and I believe she died
in Wales. The children of Walter Penry Sr. were: Walter Penry Jr.,
William Penry( m Mary Jones), Edward Penry, Roger Penry & Jane Penry
(married Uriah Parry). I believe that David Penry was also a son who
married Hannah Pugh d/o David Pugh who also bought much land in Radnor,
Ohio. Any definite information on this family would be greatly
appreciated. When Uriah Parry died in Wales then one of her brothers
came to Wales to get her and take her to Radnor. Two of her children
had already gone with their uncle to Radnor, OH USA. Mary Jones, wife
of William Penry, has on her tombstone that she was born in Breconshire
S. Wales.

Hello! Folks ...
This is a bit of a long shot ... however because my mother's side of the
family claimed they were Welsh I thought I would ask for help.
I am looking for the parents of John Gelling. His gravestone d. 29 July
1879 ae. 80 years. Township Book lists John Gallon (Gelling) of England or
Isle of Man. Family lore says he was a British sailor prior to coming to
Canada.
John settled in Nova Scotia, petitioned the government for and received
land on which he farmed, raised a family, and became a respected member of
his community. John is my gggrandfather.
Any and all help appreciated.

Hello,
My family interest is 'Davies'. Joshua s/o John and Mgt... m Emma
Davies abt 1861 (have yet to find a marriage, but believe it could be in
Llanelly parish).
Two chn born in Brynmawr, Mary Ellen, my gt grandmother, b 1860, and
George. Joshua went to Aust ahead of his young family. He was a
tailor, and Emma joined him about 1865.
Emma's parents were Benjamin and Mgt., who later came to Australia when
they were about 64 yrs old. Emma had a sister Hannah, who was 3 yrs
older than she, and as yet I don't have a marriage or death for her.
Hannah was not living with her parents in 1861.
My belief is that she either died young, or died sometime close to 1864,
and the parents felt that they could go to Aust to be with their other
daughter, who as time went by had quite a few children.
I believe Joshua was born in Capel Cynon. I have found a spot on the
map of that name, but also believe there was a parish of that name, so
am not sure which one refers to Joshua.
I have not yet located John and Mgt on the 1851 or 1861, as I don't
really know where they were supposed to be living.
Joshua appears as a boarder in Brynmawr in 1861. There is also a Joshua
on the 1851, with a Mgt (I think) Reynolds, but I don't know if that is
the same Joshua.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone researching these people, or who
may have information to fill in my gaps.
Glenda :-)

I've just realised my original message was not very clear as it didn't
really give names and many dates.

Message from a lurker,
With reference to the comment that things are a little quiet on this message
board, maybe someonewould like to help with this query regarding my
GGGrandmother Hannah Gething.
What we know -
Hannah Gething b.6Aug1832 was the daughter of Richard and Mary Gething.
Hannah married Benjamin Phillips (of Carmarthenshire) 19 May 1857 at Calvary
baptist Chapel (probably in Penderyn).
At the time of her marriage, Hannah was living at a farm in Penderyn called
Gellydevolas (also known as Gellydafolog and Gellidafolws).
In 1861 Hannah and Benjamin were living in Pont brenllwyd, Penderyn
(Breconshire 1861 census 63/f25/so61)
Morgan Rhys farmed Gellydevolas and was married to Ann Gething, who died in
1842.
What we don't know -
Where was Hannah born?
Where did her parents live?
What was Mary Gething's maiden name?
Who were Hannah's siblings?
Was Ann Rhys (nee Gething) the sister of Richard Gething?
Etc...
All information gratefully received.
Regards,
Russell Phillips.

Hello Malcolm,Good idea,i am new to this list and having terrible problems
trying to find my John Thomas Davies and Sarah Woodhouse.Sarah was born in
Breconshire and had one daughter there in 1855 called Sarah Ani they then
went to St Giles in London[or Southwark].I found them on the 1871 in
Southwark and my great grandfather also called John Thomas Davies was born
there in 1864.Ican't get any further than this and when i sent for John
juniors birth cert it came back with the mother as Sarah Williams,so i am
really confused now.Any help or suggestions anyone can offer i will be
extremely grateful for.Suzanne Newport Gwent---- Original Message -----

Hi Malcolm and everyone,
I've been have only made about 2 posts in as many years so I
think I qualify as a lurker!
I am researching my MORGAN family who were wealthy landowners from
Faversham, Kent in the 18th and 19th centuries but are reputed to come from
Penderhyn.
My earliest ancestor is JAMES MORGAN, a solicitor whom is it said was
brought to Kent in the early 18th century by his uncle Walter Jones, also a
solicitor and one-time mayor of Faversham.
James' coat of arms is the same as that seen in the Brecon area but there
are no documents to prove definitively that JAMES MORGAN connects with those
from Penderhyn.
So I'm patiently lurking here in the hope that one day a fellow researcher
will come along, preferably with the missing link!
In the meantime I'm happy to bide my time and enjoy the photos that John
Ball takes of the area.
Best wishes, Brian Fisher
