Greetings,
I am descended from the Jones' of Llannffinan and I would be interested to
learn if you can offer me any help in finding further information about my
ancestors.
My GG Grandfather, Richard Jones, b.1815 d.17.7.1879 he married Catherine
Roberts b.1814 d.23.4.1878
They married at Llanffinan Church on 28.1.1838. The marriage certificate
shows Richard's Father as William Jones, Farmer. The certificate also records
Roberts father as Robert Daniel, Parish Clerk.
Their children were Sarah, Richard, John, Elizabeth, Catherine and Henry
(21.1.1858 - 3.7.1929) who was my Grandfather.
The Llanffinnan Baptism Records show that the first five children were
baptised at Llanffinnan.
The first five children were born in Llanffinan and Henry was born in Bangor.
Richard and Catherine Jones and their eldest daughter Sarah are buried
together in the churchyard at Llanffinan.
Richard Jones was a farmer's son and the census records show him as an
agricultural labourer prior to his move to Bangor after 1852
The 1861 census shows him as a railway labourer.the marriage certificate of
Henry Jones in 1888 shows his father as railway platelayer (deceased).
I would be interested to know if there is any history recorded about
Llanffinan during the 19th Century and to learn a little more about the life and times
of the Jones' during that century.
I do hope you can provide guidance which would be greatly appreciated.
David Percival Jones, Knutsford, Cheshire.
