ALED....
Cyfarchion Aled,
Where are you living at present ? We are in Fleet in Hampshire.
I suspect that in the late 18th early 19 C our families were next-door
neighbours as LLWYN YR ARTH and CLYMWR, my family home were both in sight of
Llanbabo Church and West of Llyn Alaw, now a reservoir.
The references used here are "1851", the INDEX to the 1851 Census for
Anglesey, i.e. it gives sheet numbers but no addresses. One assumes that if
entries are of the same 'Folio No.' then the addresses are very close to
each other, if not the same household. This has to be confirmed by looking
at the census proper.
"1881", is the Full Census on CD and baptisms are from Non-Conformist
(Calvinistic Methodist) records from the Gwynedd FHS.
We have not as yet found a Cadwallader Thomas nor a Thomas Cadwallader
and in 1881, LLANOL, is a farm of 180 acres some 2 kM North of Llwynyrarth
in the hands of John Owen age 51.
However in 1881 we found Cadwaladr Williams age 61 living at
Llwynyrarth, a farm of 255 acres with his brother Hugh Williams age 66. Both
are unmarried, Hugh is the 'Farmer' and both born Llanbabo.
In 1851 there are two farm workers on Folio 169 of Sheet HO.107 2522
both born Llanbabo :-
Hugh Williams age 36 and Cadwaledr Williams age 30.
Also on Folio 169 are William Williams age 72 and Catherine Williams age 30.
Could they be the parents ?
We found a marriage at Llanbabo by License on 17.12.1804 of William
Williams to Catherine Hughes both of Llanbabo. [In 1852 one witness at my
g-grandfather's wedding was 'a' William Williams - I wonder ?]
There is a good correlation with the baptisms in the Bethlehem Chapel,
Llanbadrig of children to William Williams[Farmer] and Catherine Hughes, of
Tyn -y-Main, Llanbabo [nearest match we found is Tyn-y-Maen, some 1 kM East
of Llwynyrarth] :-
Hugh on 13/04/1814 Cadwaladr on 11/03/1821
others listed are :-
Mary 1/08/1816 Margaret 11/09/1818 Catherine
07/09/1823
How about that to get on with ? Meantime my wife and I will scratch
around a bit more. Llanol, by the way, though a relatively small farm at
present was significant in mediaeval times as a township which disintegrated
in the disasters of the 14 C - famine, cattle murrain and the Black Death !
