I recently came across an amusing photograph of my grandfather (Emyr HUMPHREYS born
Bangor) playing the part of his elderly aunt named Appolonia. He does have HUGHES folk on
his mother's side across the Menai Straits, so there may well be a connection -
somewhere!
On the assumption that there really couldn't be too many ladies with this name (!), I
checked LDS and came up with Apilonia HUMPHREYS baptised in July 1811 at Betws Garmon to
parents Humphrey HUGHES and Mary.
I believe she is the same person mentioned in the 1881 census as being an unmarried
female, born Llanbeblig, aged 69, housekeeper living at Llechyrolaf, Bettws Garmon.
FreeBMD has a death recorded in the Carnarvon district in 1888 for an Appolonia HUGHES
aged 77, which ties in nicely.
If anyone has any information about this lady or her parents (particularly their
marriage), I would be keen to hear from them.
