Bill,
I missed the beginning of your thread. Have you tried the Archivist at
Oxford? There were, frequently, records of clergy even after they left
Oxford. Sorry if I am repeating others' comments.

Many thanks, Dewi. Unfortunately Crockfords does not commence as
early as
1802 as far as I know. I am in the process of trying to contact the
Diocese
of Bangor. I will keep you posted. He was certainly anglican,
christened
in his parish church at Llanfaes in May 1779, married at Beaumaris in
1812.
His mother Emma was the daughter of Rev John Lewis, Rector of
Llandegfan.
Bill.

Bill,
based on the fact he graduated from Oxford, he would most likely have been
Anglican. You should be able to find him in Crockfords Directory. I've
just
had a similar case: I was looking for a presbyterian minister for a
couple
of years until someone pointed that out to me.
If you mail either Lambeth Palace, where they have info on all anglican
clergymen, or the national library of Wales, they will be able to look up
the entry in Crockfords for you. Alternatively you could try your local
reference library ,but whether they have such an old directory is
doubtful.
If you do manage to find him, please let us know.
Good luck,
Dewi

Can someone please try to inform me which would have been the local
diocese
to perform an ordination of someone such as the following?
Jones (1779 - 1837) of 'Henllys', Llanfaes, Beaumaris, 2nd son of John
Hampton Jones.
He matriculated to Wadham College Oxford in 1797, aged 17. Graduated B.A.
in 1802. (Alumni Oxonienses).
The first ecclesiastical posting we know of him was as civil and military
chaplain to the Cape of Good Hope in 1806. Between that and his 1802
graduation, we don't know where he served nor where he was ordained.
