Judith,
As I stated in my reply to Dave, this family is just one of a few that be
could my ancestors, but on John junior's marriage certificate his father's
occupation is labourer, and not sailor or mariner. I have been provided
with a number of possible families by Clwyd list members, and I could
forward them to you if you wish. I don't think it would be of interest to
anyone else on this list unless they are researching the same families.
John junior's birthplace was given as Llandysilio in the 1881 census and
Llangollen in 1891, 1901 and 1911.
Thanks for the reply.
Gwyn

Hello Gwyn,
I have these folk in my Owen family tree and believe they are the John
Jones
mariner and Jane Rowlands referred to in the posting (from Dave) below:
Jane Rowlands was baptized 6.1.1828 at Llandegfan. She married John Jones
(Jnr), a Master Mariner and they lived at Oakland Inn,
Bangor Ferry in 1850. They both died young - John 24.8.1850 and Jane
10.2.1851 (aged 23):
Chwefror 9, yn 25 oed, gweddw y diweddar Mr. John Joues, ieu.,
meistr morwr- ol, Pont Menai, a merch henaf John Rowland,
Cadnant, Pont Menai. (February 9th, aged 25, the widow of the late
Mr. John Jones, jnr (?), master mariner, Menai Bridge and
the eldest daughter of John Rowland, Cadnant, Menai Bridge.)
As seen in 'Y SEREN ORLLEWINOL' 1851 / THE WESTERN STAR
However, I wasn't aware that they had 2 children, John b 6.1.1849 + Jane
Jones b 22.1.1850, so this was very interesting and I would be interested
to
know more about them, if anyone can tell me.
On how many of the 4 censuses mentioned was John Jones given as being born
at Llandysilio? One might hazard a guess and say that Lladwrog is nearer
to
Llandysilio than Llangollen and as his wife Mary was from Llandwrog and
the
family lived there for 4 censuses, it would be more feasible for them to
have met in Caernarvonshire rather than in Denbighshire. Having said that,
one of my Davies family tree members who lived in Llanfair TH married
another member of this Rowlands/Owen family tree who was from Anglesey!
Best wishes,
Judith Mair

There is a John Jones born 6-Jan 1849, Menai Bridge, Llandysilio to John
JONES, mariner and Jane nee ROWLAND(S). There was another child born to
this
family, Jane 22-Jan 1850 at Oakland, Llandysilio the father is listed as a
sailor. I haven't checked any further but it should be easy to check the
census to see if they weren't yours. Get back to me if you wish me to
check
for another John JONES in say 1848 or 1850. This is a busy time for me so
I
might be a bit slow.
Best wishes, Dave ________________________________________

The family home was Caer Constabl, Llandwrog, in 1881, 1891, 1901 and
1911.
John JONES, born c1849 in Llandysilio or Llangollen, Denbighshire
(Variation
in different census)
Mary " (nee ROBERTS), born c1851 in Llandwrog
Children (All born in Llandwrog)
Catherine, b 1870
Robert, b 1873
Margaret Ann, b 1878
Jane, b 1884
Mary (Lizzie), b 10/07/1887
The only way I'll find the ancestors of John, my grgrgrandfather, whose
father is also called John, is if someone connected to the family has been
given info from an elderly relative. I've posted the query to the Clwyd
list and had some very helpful replies, but unfortunately there was no way
of getting a definite identification of John's family. Margaret Ann was
my
grgrandmother. She married Evan WILLIAMS, born 10/04/1877, Llanbeblig,
Caernarvon, on 23/11/1896 in Llandwrog, and they both died in Caerphilly,
S
Wales.
I would be very grateful if someone is able to help me get past this
massive
brick wall.
Thanks,
Gwyn Williams
