Many thanks to all the generous respondents and especially to Robert, here,
for the transcription. Through the multitude of helpful advice I will
probably still check the FHS film of the census for Llanfaes and, in
searching the FHL site for the film numbers, I also unearthed some
references to films of parish registers and bishops transcripts. So thank
you all for your help.
Robert, regarding the Hampton Lewises of Henllys, they changed their name at
least twice in 2 generations to mark their various inheritances. By this
time I think they had lives away from Anglesey, in London. I am proud that
my forebear, a younger son of the family, retained his grandfather's proper
surname of Jones.
The Hamptons, who owned Henllys over many generations, died out in the male
line. Mary Hampton of Henllys married John JONES of Trefollwyn in 1746.
Their eldest son styled himself John HAMPTON JONES. He married Emma LEWIS,
herself an heiress through the family of her father, Rev. John Lewis of Plas
Llanfihangel Tre'rbeirdd. Their eldest son, born 1775, got the name John
Hampton HAMPTON LEWIS. So, in 2 generations, the Jones name was dropped.
However, the latter's younger brother went to Oxford and entered the church
under his proper patrimony of Robert Edward JONES and spent the last half of
his life as military and civil chaplain in Mauritius, where he died in 1837.
Just to complete this story of intermarriages, in case any readers have an
interest, Rev Robert Edward Jones married at Beaumaris in 1812 Susannah
Dorothea WILLIAMS, daughter of John Williams of Peniarth ucha, Merioneth,
and of Gaynor THOMAS of Coed Helen, Carnarvon. (Due acknowledgement to
Griffith's Pedigrees.)
Bill.

Here is a transcription of the last two pages of the
1841 census for Llanfaes. The bracketed text was hard
to read and was my best guess.
