Try also the local parish vestry book and poor law records some of
which are in Bangor University Archives. The vestry books cover poor relief to about
1820/30 when the Poor Law Unions seem to largely take over. There might be records in one
of these two sources of relief given for an operation.
Llannor vestry book contains a few instances of relief given to local inhabitants to
attend hospital in Chester. The commonplace book of a Bryncroes pastor in the 18th
century contains a number of references to local subscriptions for the relief of those
affected by fire and for surgery on a malignant tumour of one woman's breast. Both
are in Bangor.
