I called at Llangefni Record Office last week in a bit of a rush. One
item that I wanted to check out was the wedding (Amlwch area) of the
above in October 1889. Dave's index shows it to be an Anglesey East
wedding so no records in Record Office. What I would like is info about
Ann Hughes so I can identify her family. Can anyone help??
In 1891 they are living Llandyfrydog - in 1901 they are at Ffestiniog.
By the way, since I last went to Llangefni, the Marriage etc Registers
have now been microfilmed, so what used to be a quick look at a
particular register can now mean a much longer visit, as the microfilm
readers are quite slow, and need to be booked in advance if you are
travelling from any distance.

Hefin,
What is needed then is a look up table.
Church Identy Person Parish Area Year uFilm
Then with a Cross Reference to [Daves] Index, the Parish and year of the
Baptism/ Marriage /Death can be easily found before the visit. Then on the visit
to Llangefni Register Office, you only have to look for the uFilm you need
to look at. It then gives you more time to look for other things. They may well
have a list of Parish Regs already if so this just needs to be copied and
Cross Referenced.
[ Liverpool Record Office have done a similar thing with codes i.e. 283
PTR/3/8/139].
To get to this code I had to use the Lancashire BMD and from the search in
the Marriage section I came up with 2085WD/8/139. From this code 2085WD
[Church Identification number in West Derby] I obtained the church of St Peter in
Everton I also get the year from the code 1888.
I now use this look up table that LRO have on line, and enter in 283 PTR.
It lists all the volumes in that Parish church. I am actually looking for
Marriages [3] it gives me 12 Volumes [ I am looking for Volume 8] we now look
at the year we want to look at . i.e 1888 and ensure that Volume 8 is the
correct Volume, sometimes they Overlapp and Vol 7 or 9 may have to be looked in
which may be on a different ufilm.
So now we have ufilm, we take that to the microfilm reader [try to get on
the Electric winder one with the Printer ] load it and look for the year and
the entry number i.e.139.
Church Identy Person Parish Area Year
uFilm
St Peter Henry Jones Lancshire Everton 1888 283
PTR/3/8/139
Now take the print or a Photo of the page. [ Prints should only cost about
30p]
I also take an expected copy of a marriage cert that I expect to observe
before when I visit, then before I print I examine it, it may be the incorrect
person. i.e the fathers don't match up, or its the wrong person i.e Henry John
Jones. You have to start again and use that marriage ident as a NOT THEM.
Regards
John
