John,
You and I were in contactly quite some time ago regarding the Charles family of ministers.
My family comes into that line with William Charles (1817-1849). His wife (later widow)
was my husband's 3rd-great-aunt. She was born Elin Edwards - her parents lived at
Bodwrog-Isaf in Bodwrog Parish. I think there was a lot of intersecting of extremely
religious families here, because Elin Edwards' great-grandfather was William Prichard,
Clwchdernog, who was quite influential in the Nonconformity movement in the 1700s.
I have been told that Thomas Charles Williams is linked into the Charles, Gwalchmai family
through a Charles daughter's marriage to a Williams somewhere in there. I'm not
really sure where that link occurs, though. I have the book about Thomas Charles
Williams, but unfortunately can't read Welsh.
I'll check into the details I have on the Charles family and see if I can add
anything.
Take care,
Michelle Price

Hello all !
This is just a follow up to emails from 2006 re the above
families of
Gwalchmai.
I have an apparent family link to Thom Charles Williams
(1868-1927). I think
personally its just the surname and occupation that family
members have
hooked onto. Nevertheless, looking I have been !!
I have come across an email of Angharad Williams in 2006,
and she is correct
but would like ectra input if anyone has the Williams !!!.
Thos Charles Williams & John Williams were sons of Hugh
Williams/Margaret
Charles married 1861. Hugh's father was Edward a
shoemaker.
Marg Charles was daug of John Charles b 1784/6. They had 7
children in all.
Hugh, John Will, Grace, John, Thomas and Margaret.
I need to know if ANY of these offspring married any other
religious
Williams of Gwalchmai.
All help appreciated.
Cheers John

Hello John
The book that I have on the life of Thomas Charles Williams
just has one
chapter on his ancestry. From that I gather John Charles
1784-1858 married
twice 1] 21/8/1804 Elizabeth Edwards Trewalchmai parish 7
had 3 children
Mary, Hugh Edward & John 2] 5/3/1816 Grace Hughes
Llangwyllog parish & 5
children
William, Eleanor (1819-1836), Thomas (1821-45), David,
Grace (1825-42) &
Margaret (1827-1908). These were the 4 preachers amongst
them
Hugh Edward Charles 1806-1839 doesn't seem as if he was
married. worked as a
fuller as his father
John Charles 1809-1865 married and moved to live to
Penmynydd, An ordained
minister [in 1851}
William Charles 1817-1849 -he was the most popular and well
known of the
four. His health wasn't good, had TB - was not very
strong.Was known as
William Charles, Gwalchmai but never ordained [died too
soon most probable]
His widow emigrated to the US and his son, also a William
Charles, became a
minister in the US
David Charles 1823-1860 ordained at at Llangefni in 1857.
No mention that he
was married and seems that he lived at the old home in
Penrhyn- In
Llanbeulan parish near Gwalchmai
Hope there is something here that might help you. I'm
afraid that I haven't
read TCW's life story as I'm not sure what I should
be searching for. I take
it that your surname is Williams but do you have any
specific connections
with Gwalchmai that fits the above period.? I know people
from Gwalchmai
that are members of the local genealogical society that I
could mention this
to them if I knew a little bit more about your connections
and roots
Regards
Angharad

Hello Angharad,
Yes I need some help , and some answers.per your comments.
Question 1: What am I searching for re TCW (Thomas Charles
Williams) ??
I am trying to prove or disprove my link to TCW. I have a
portrait photo of
him here at home. Family lore says he is a relation.
Question 2: I take it that your surname is Williams but do
you have any
specific connections with Gwalchmai that fits the above
period.?
I am actually an Edwards, but my Great Grandfather was a
William Williams of
Gwalchmai (born 1865), late of Aberffraw. His father, my
Great Great
Grandfather, was Rev John Williams (1833-1895) also of
Gwalchmai/Trewalchmai.
Rev John and Mary Williams had 7 children, Eliz, Ellen,
Richard, Edward,
Hugh, John and William. If
Ancestry.com records are correct
and I have
interpretted them correctly too.
Presently the way it looks is that my John Williams, and
the Hugh
Williams/Charles line emanate from Gwalchmai at around the
same era
1830-1833. So there MAY be some connection. I am wondering
IF they were
brothers, or cousins ? Therefore, confirming a link. Of
course the link may
not exist at all, or may be through the siblings on either
side.
Question 3: I know people from Gwalchmai that are members
of the local
genealogical society that I could mention this to them if I
knew a little
bit more about your connections and roots.
In all honesty, if you have some knowledgable folk in the
society, please
see what they can confirm or deny re TCW. It would be nice
to know either
way.
Thanks John
