In July 1814 Grace Jones gave a statement that she was with child, and
that the father was John Roberts of Llanddyfnan. She also said that she
had no legal settlement, but that her father William Jones had
settlement in Llanbedrgoch through having worked for Michael Hughes of
Plas y Brain.
Grace Jones, singlewoman of Llandegfan, being with child, never gained
legal settlement in her own right, but is daughter of William Jones,
quarryman of Llandegfan.
William Jones says the place of his legal settlementis Llanbedrgoch,
where he was hired for one year by Michael Hughes of Plas y Brain.
Grace Jones of Porthllongdy Uchaf, Llanbedrgoch, says John roberts,
labourer of Bettws, Llanddyfnan is the father of her unborn child.
There is another statement in November 1815: Quarter sessions record
WQ/S/Poor/686
Grace Jones, singlewoman of Llanbedrgoch says that John Roberts,
labourer, of Bettws, Llanddyfnan is the father of her female bastard
child, born at Tyn Lon, Llanbedrgoch.
I wonder if the child she was expecting in July 1814 is the same as the
one mentioned in November 1815, and would be grateful if someone could
check the Llanbedrgoch parish registers to see if when she had the
child(ren0 by John Roberts. I already know of her daughters in 1818 and
1822 by Jehoiakim Pritchard.
The 1851 census for Clai, Llanbedrgoch says that she was born in
Llandegfan around 1788, and the Poor Law Records I have found on the a2a
website shows that her father was called William Jones, and another
document in 1839 suggests her mother may have been called Catherine:
William Jones of Llandegfan, who lived first at Caer Faban, and the Pwll
y Caccwn, both Llandegfan, during some time had served Michael Hughes of
Plas y Brain, Llanbedrgoch and received parish relief from Llanbedrgoch.
Warrant to remove William Jones and his wife Catherine from Llandegfan
to Llanbedrgoch.
I would be grateful for any further information on this family,
Thanks,
Iolo.
