Sorry, Marv, I didn't see your email as I only get the digest mailout.
There isn't, I am afraid, much purpose in looking up coats of arms or crests for any
individual surname as their traditional relevance is only as "marks" which
pertain to one genetic family and that family only.
Owing to the nature of Welsh surnames, not all Jones are related, neither all Roberts.
That is because, as I am sure you know, between the 16th and 19th centuries, different
families at different times have "stuck" with a patronymic surname which was
theretofore changeable with each generation (unless they were all called John or Robert in
a long line).
That isn't to say that your Jones or Roberts families do not have a coat of arms (most
families do not, by the way) but which one?
It is unfortunately not possible to find the Jones or Roberts coat of arms. It is, of
course, possible to, as a bit of fun, find a Jones or Roberts coat of arms and use that.
What if, in 10 years time, you found that it was the wrong one? :-)
MP Siddons wrote a 3 volume book called "The Development of Welsh Heraldry" and
I am sure that there would be 10s of pages of different Jones and Roberts coats of arms.
JE Griffith's "Pedigrees..." (1913) also has a list of coats of arms of
North Wales (not arranged by family). Many of the people written about in his book,
however, would have been entitled to bear arms.
I hope this is helpful.
Yours,
Ian Thompson
