Thomas BULKLEY of Rumford, Cheshire and Samuel BULKLEY of Plumbley, Cheshire
were First Purchasers of 500 acres from William Penn, arriving prior to 1684
in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
Samuel married Ann JONES, daughter of Matthew JONES in Philadelphia on Feb.
12, 1693 at Center Meeting House. In 1704 Samuel's widow married Joseph
GROWDEN, a widower.
Additionally, there was a John BUCKLEY, Jr. of Melkysham in the County of
Wilts, listed as "husbandman" whose name appears as one of Penn's first
purchasers - 250 acres.
The 1722 Tax List for Delaware County, Pennsylvania includes Samuel BULKLEY
with property in Chester. This location at that time was in the County of
Chester - one of Pennsylvania's original three counties.
More informational references for Sam BU(C)KLEY can be found in Volume 1,
pages 84-88 of the "Pennsylvania Colonial Records". These are the
Pennsylvania archival records covering the period from the founding of
Pennsylvania up to just after the end of the American Revolution.
