Hello Anglesey listers. This is my first input to this site, although I
have been reading it since it's inception.
We (my wife & I) were fortunate enough to have been able to visit Anglesey
this past April and fell in love with everything we saw and anxiously await
an opportunity for a return trip. We were able to visit the National
Library of Wales in Aberystwyth for a couple of days research and found the
staff very helpful and the available information slightly overwhelming to a
couple of newbie genealogy searchers, to say the least. I only had four
hard facts when we arrived, my ggggrandfather Robert Owen(s), his brother
Thomas and that Thomas was born on 04 July 1813, and that both were born on
Anglesey.
At Shirehall in Llanderfinni we found a Thomas Owens in the
Aberffraw baptismal records for that date who was born to William Owen and
Jane Owen (Lewis). And a daughter Ellen, also listed in the same parish
record book, born 11 June 1815. Although baptised in Aberffraw , their
abode was Par Lwr Cimmwch P. of Llanfaelog and the father was a mariner.
I'm guessing that the name of the house translates to "Parlor of the
Lobster". No Robert with this group.
In the Llandrygarn parish book, we found a Robert Owen and twin sister
Catherine born on 05 Oct 1817, to William and Jane Owen (Lewis) living in
Penboncan Pom Ponce (no clue what that is) and the father's trade is
coachman. No Thomas with this group.
Llandysilio parish book lists a Robert born on 07 Nov 1819 and a sister
Margaret born 26 Aug 1821, their father was also a William Owen and a Jane
for the mother. The father was a coachman and resided at Stabal-New-Ydd
(new stable ?) No Thomas with this group.
The IGI lists a William Owens and a Jane Lewis married in
Llanfairmathafarneithaf on 29 Sept 1812 and another couple of the same
name married in Llanbedrgoch on 17 Oct 1814.
Both brothers, Thomas and Robert, emigrated to New York in or about 1833.
I'm stuck at this point unless these names and dates might fit with some of
you, or if I can uncover some hidden facts over here along their migration
route to Oregon along the "Oregon Trail".
Thanks for any help. Good hunting.
