Neil,
Your website about the copper mining in Anglesey has been very enlightening
to both my older brother and myself - we had no idea about any copper having
been mined in Angelsey - our Welsh family members never mentioned that -
they only talked about coal mining, but that was probably due to their
experience in the USA.
My grandfather, Evan Thomas, was born in 1860. He emigrated to America
about 1882 -with two brothers, one named Robert, I think the other was
Richard.
Evan was first in Utah, USA - then moved east to Luzerne County,
Pennsylvania, then finally settled in Mt. Carmel, Northumberland County,
Pennsylvania. There, he was a coal miner, and he and his wife evidentally
owned three little "mom and pop" type grocery, candy, and ice cream stores.
Evan died in 1920. Evan married a Sarah Powell who was born in
Pembrokeshire and emigrated to Pennsylvania at age 4 yrs. After his death,
Sarah sold the town properties and bought a country estate outside of
Danville, Montour County, PA which seemed to have been a haven for the Welsh
in that part of Pennsylvania. My grandparents hard work came to naught as
their sons lost the property during America's Great Depression of the
1930's.
Robert Thomas also lived in Mt. Carmel, PA. He married a Mary Thomas.
The third brother went to Saskatchewan, Canada - he and his family stayed
there.
There were two other members of this Anglesey Thomas family that I know of.
An older brother, Hugh, who remained in Wales, and a sister Ellen who
married a Jones.
I couldn't locate Ty Mawr in the 1841 census on your site. The search
engine seemed to need a surname rather than a place name. How do I find Ty
Mawr?
Thanks for your interest and help!

PENGRAIGWEN is a small area to the South west of the town of Amlwch
in
Anglesey.
There are three "Ty mawr" listed for llandafrydog in the 1881 census. None
of them have Thomas as a surname.
Do you have any evidence to suggest that Eavan Thomas was a coper miner at
parys mountain?
To which area of the USA did he go?
