Dear All,
This is my first time on this list!
I'm looking for information on the connection between Plas Coch,
Llanedwen, Anglesey and the famous Liverpool Privateer Fortunatus WRIGHT.
The information I have at present is: -
Apparently Plas Coch was built in 1569 by a David HUGHES and was
passed down through the HUGHES family.
In 1735, a William BULKELEY of Bryn-du (I do not know where this
is!) took his daughter to visit Dublin. There she met Fortunatus WRIGHT, by
whom she became pregnant! After a hastily arranged marriage their daughter
Anna was born.
Anna later married Roger HUGHES of Plas Coch and so the connection
was made. Is anyone able to either confirm and/or add anything to this
summary of events?
I understand that Plas Coch is now part of a caravan site on the
shores of the Menai Straits, and acts as the club house/bar for the site. I
understand that a framed Family Tree for Fortunatus WRIGHT was on the wall
of the bar. I'm wondering if it is still there? Does anyone have a postal
address or telephone number of the caravan site so that I may contact them
myself? I don't even know what the site is called!!
Thanking you all in anticipation.
Peter Jones, Liverpool.
