Hello Everyone,
I'm new here so I thought I should post my interests. I'm working on my
mother's parents families at the moment. On her mother's side her nain and
taid were John Bryan and Gwen (nee Jones, daughter of William Jones) and in
1881 they lived at 18 North Penrallt, Llanbeblig. According to the 1881
census John Bryan would have been born about 1846 and Gwen Jones about
1850, and their first child Margaret Dutton Bryan was born about 1870, all
in Caernarfon. On my mother's father's side I am looking for Owen Jones and
his wife Cathrine, both born in Holyhead and living at 14 Well St in 1881.
They had two sons, Hugh T. Jones born 1879 and David Jones born 1881.Owen
died soon after aged about 40, and Cathrine was given the job of looking
after the village pump until she died in about 1890, and David then went to
live with an uncle, I think, who started him off as a cabin boy, probably
on one of the ferries from Holyhead.Does any of this ring any bells? All
help welcome!
Also, I currently have a book on loan from the library -"Liverpool Welsh
and their religion" by R. Merfyn Jones and D. Ben Rees. It is a short
review of the history of the Welsh Calvinist Methodists in Liverpool
between about 1780-1980, and names many preachers and prominent Welsh
people who were active in Liverpool. If anyone wants me to check for a
particular name I am happy to do that while I have the book. Also I am
close to the Liverpool Record Office, if anyone wants a look-up there. (But
nothing too difficult, please; I'm just a novice at this!)
Blessings
Chrissie
