Hi Iolo,
Just my luck that the Aberffraw records begin in 1719 - so close, yet so
far! I have done the same as you in other parishes, copying down records in
the hopes that someday those names will fit into the puzzle.
Thanks,
Michelle

Valerie,
Have you tried the BMD's or the LDS site? It's worth a try.

Would anyone know anything about Llanelian church, Anglesey. I believe it is
in Amlwch. I am looking for a John Jones born 1831 and Mary (Williams), his
wife born 1831?, who are buried there. I have them in the 1871 census, but I
believe John had died by the 1881 census, as Mary was listed as living with
unmarried daughter Ann. I would like to know the date of their deaths etc.
Thanks.

George, The parish marriage book is identical to the registrar's book after
1837 in theory as they were completed at the same time in the church and are
supposed to be identical copies. However this is not the case and I have
seen several where the records are at least slightly different.
Before 1837 it was the parish register and this will depend upon the vicar
at the time some made good records, others very poor. I've seen one where
there were two crosses for the people married and that was all, no names and
no dates.
You could get the archives in Llangefni to do a copy from the relevant
parish register, you will need to give as much info as possible.
archives(a)anglesey.gov.uk is their email.
Or you could write to the present vicar, he is allowed to charge a fee for
this service. Dave

To answer the first query - the cemetery has been recorded by the Gwynedd
FHS and is available from the society. I'm afraid I don't know anything
about its condition

Hello
Is anyone on the list familiar with the above cemetery? I am looking for
graves ca 1866 and 1872.
Is the cemetery well kept?
Secondly, a conundrum.............I have a John and Ann(e) Jones of
Pentregwian,Amlwch. I have them on the 1841 census onwards. But I cannot find a
marriage for them anywhere in Anglesey. I have looked up Coedana (the bride's
birthplace) and Amlwch (husbamd birthplace) to no avail (Their youngest child was
baptised ca 1811.
I haev searched all the parished in the Index to pre 1837 Marriages- no luck.
I have searched the nonconformist registers in Amlwch- no luck.
The family baptsed their children at St Eliths up till 1828, then no
entries. There were more children born after 1828 according to the census and family
history.
John Jones was a Miner as was his father before him. Would/could he have
moved away for theat period of time between 1828 and 1841?
Or did they just stop baprising thier children?
Could they not have bothereed to get married??
Advice greatly appreciated

The area around the Mermaid and Sea Zoo is Carboniferous limestone. Where
ever this occurs on Anglesey there were lime burning works. You should speak
to Brian Hyde or Joe Mullen. I have maps here which will show where they
were, there are going to be lots of small ones. Best wishes Dave (Stone
Science)
